That rings a bell with me. Were they repeats from the 1950s/1960s?

I have a vague memory of it being on Radio 1 in the early '90s. On Saturday mornings, either before or after Scrap Saturday. I remember finding both very funny, despite not fully understanding what was going on.

JK on the Hotline!! Has worked on some range of shows, and still going. Only needs a stint on Morning Ireland and he'll have a full bingo card 🤣

John Kenny is unusual in that after toiling away on various pirates for much of the 1980s, having started in the late 1970s as far as I know, he never worked outside of RTE once he went legal. All other comparable contemporaries that spent as long as him with pirates sooner or later went to the new commercial stations…. as far as I can make out anyway.

Edit: Lorcan Murray perhaps? I don't know his pirate background.

Lorcan was a club DJ in limerick before he joined RTE in around 1988, not sure if he was on limerick pirates??

He left RTE (Lyric) for Clare FM in the early - mid 00s, but returned to Lyric a few years later.

That could be a topic - once 2FM presenters who left RTE, though returned to 2FM or somewhere else in RTE !!

in fairness JK has covered some slots on 2FM, fill in on Radio 1 and RTE Gold and his current own show on 2XM digital while presenting sports news and matches / events on TV and radio but his 2FM shows were focused on weekend evenings, he did not have much of a presence on weekday 2FM radio perhaps only covering for Tony on the hotline and overnights when a different presenter would present each night from 1am to 7am. The weekend hotline was JK's own show for around from around 1989 - 1991 and also his hugely popular metal show for much of the 90s.

Other examples of the phenomenon of former 2FM presenters leaving RTE and coming back again.

Marty Whelan - famously left 2FM for Century Radio, got burnt by its closedown and ended up back with RTE.

Declan Meehan - re-joined the pirates after being with "RTE Radio 2" and some years later came back to RTE via Millennium Radio and then 2FM for a relatively brief period, but he re-joined the commercial sector then.

Colm Hayes - left 2FM for Capital Radio/ Rock104/ FM104, came back to 2FM a number of years later, but has since re-joined the commercial sector.

Aidan Leonard - left 2FM for Capital Radio and then Century Radio, came back to 2FM and then RTE Gold. He recently finished with RTE Gold.

Michael McNamara / Mickey Mac - left RTE after more than 20 years with the organisation (mainly 2FM, but started with RTE Radio 1 and finished with Lyric FM), turned up on Clare FM and came back to RTE on RTE Gold.

Ruth Scott - left 2FM for Dublin's 98FM before returning again, but has since left for the commercial sector again.

I think Ray D'Arcy did the odd bit of 2FM work in the late 90s before "joining Dempsey's den" on Today FM.

    he did indeed a few 2FM weekend fill-in shows around 1997 / 1998

robbie irwin also left 2FM for Century and returned to RTE, eventually to 2FM with a sunday morning music and sports show in the mid 2000s "Sportsbag".

If you want to count recent presenters doireann garrihy

Robbie Irwin still involved with KFM on Saturday afternoon sport

Mike Moloney and Nails Mahoney also left 2FM in 2000 and 1990 respectively and returned to RTE radio on RTE Gold.

I left Robbie Irwin out because I thought he was a producer behind the scenes the first time around on RTE Radio 2/2FM and not a presenter. Did he return again to RTE before he joined Radio Ireland/Today FM, eventually returning yet again to RTE?

Robbie was mostly a producer on Radio 2 but he had his own weekend / overnight shows for brief periods from 1986 to around 1989 and also filled in for other jocks.
