    The R9 280x is basically a re-branded 7970 with a few tweaks, it's basically the same card.

Personally, given the choice I'd go for the 280x, just cause it's newer (better resell value later on) and slightly more power-efficient.

Thanks for the reply, do you think there would be any significant difference in fps in games? From what im reading it would only be 5-6 frames in favour of the 280x which i would think would not be very noticable..

in a nut shell i can get a 7790 for a very decent price at 120 from a friend and the 280x would be alot more than that, but if the difference was big between them i would go for the 280x.
    thanks for your help...

280X will give slight upgrade over the 7970. If you're getting a 7970 for €120, take it, great deal.
A 7790 is a good bit weaker than the 7970 or the 280X, alright value for €120.

I think you made a typo in your last post however...

think your right for 120 the 7970 is a great price, and down the line even if i was to sell i would not loose much on it, i just dont want to get it and find its not good enough!!

that was a typo i meant 7790, thanks...

7970 will be more than enough for a 1080P single screen set up for the next 18-24 months.
Same with the 280X, but the 280X will we worth more afterwards.

I'm not sure where the 7790 has come from, it's only a mid-range card

At 120 for a 7970 you definitely can't go wrong, the only card you'd get new for that money is the GTX750Ti, which can't hold a candle to the 7970.

Assuming it definitely is a 7970, a 7790 would be terrible value at 120, it's worth about 70!
