Messed up before interview - fatal mistake?

    I am mortified!

I recently applied for a job in the civil service. The post required me to fill out an application form as opposed to just sending in my CV. I filled it out and sent it off.

Today I received a phonecall asking if I was available for an interview on Monday. I said yes, no problem. The man then asked me if I was a new entrant to the civil service. I said "No, I'm currently working in X." He says "Oh..right...you left that box on the application form blank..." I said "Oh my god. I'm so sorry, I was sure I put it down." He says "No you didn't. It's ok. Can you tell me what point of the scale you're on?" I told him and he said he would note it on the application. I received a follow up email confirming the date and time of my interview.

I know exactly what I did and how I did it and it was a ridiculously stupid mistake, and something that is so unlike me. I feel as though I've screwed myself now.

Has anyone ever experienced this/done similar??

I can't say for sure but my best guess is that you are worrying about nothing. You made a small error and it has now been rectified. It's not like you lied or cheated. You have since been invited to interview. No problem here! I would be surprised if the interview panel will even be made aware of this. Even if they notice something on the form it's not something they could hold against you.

Just put it behind you and prepare for your interview as you would have anyway by focusing on the competencies.

    Good luck.

He asked you the question? he's obviously double checking for a reason, if you were no longer eligible you would have been told.

They wouldn't spend time proceeding with the interview if you made a fatal mistake So I wouldn't worry about it. Best of luck.

You forgot to tick a box and you're worried that it's a fatal mistake? Come on OP, you could've wrote your grocery list on the back and it would probably be ok. People get too caught up with the bull associated with cv, job interviews etc. We're all just normal people in the real world at the end of the day.

It's only the opinion of the interview board that matters and they won't have been told about such a small thing like that.
