Had a highly illuminating afternoon in the Valuations Office today.

I can't recommend it enough if you're tracking the locations of ancestors who were tenants or landlords and it helps map movements and changes in circumstances really well after one has completed their work on Griffith's Valuation.

There was some talk about the fees on here before I think. In reality if you've got a good smartphone and a drop box account the fees are digestible. For research it costs €3.60 per electoral district and if you have an iPhone and an app like scanner pro you can digitise the records quite quickly and easily without having to break the bank.

One note for anyone thinking of dropping by - Google maps puts it where the Lottery offices are. The building is right at the end of Abbey Street and ison street level to the right of the fountain sculpture plaza.

And according to their website if you're a student, unemployed or an OAP it's all free, except photocopies of course. Proof required.

I completely agree with you Thomas. Getting records from the VO solved a mystery for me.

I found that a grey beard was taken as proof.
