Was doing my tempo run today and when I got to about 6.5 mile mark everything seemed to turn perfect... My stride, my breathing even my pace... Felt like I could run all day long.

Since I've never done a full marathon I was wondering how many burst you get like this on average....

Was a real confidence booster too, my tempos are run at marathon goal Pace and last weeks was tougher than the rest , couldn't get my breathin right and was sweating like crazy... I'm putting this down to wearing a warmer top than usual and the temps were a little higher... Goes to show how important wearing the correct clothing is too.

Yeah, it really is great when you hit your second wind in a race. I have been trying to find what the variables are that are causing this feeling to take over where you can just run strong and hard (relevant to your level of fitness).

I think as long as your are physically fit, the brain plays the most major part and generally find a mental stimulus is one of the biggest factors at play. And once it starts you gain more and more confidence.

When you get that "feeling" of the second wind, I generally take full advantage and just go for it.
