Sorry for pulling up an old thread.

The other half decided to wash her one and only Saab 9-3 key (unintentionally). She did it on Monday night and dried it out with a hoover and a night in some rice!

It worked grand until about an hour ago when out on the school run and now the car wont open. I've told her to open it and check the inside for condensation and to dry it out and dry find a chemist that sells the small battery and replace it.

If that doesnt work has anyone got any ideas on were or how we can get it fixed, its our only key so need it repaired rather than chance ordering off ebay and the likes.

    Thanks

    Hello Soups123....
Try contacting Colin at CD Motors in Fairview, Dublin 3 on Tel 01 836 0636.
Colin is a Saab specilaist and has the Saab computer needed to program new keys.
Mention Richard from MySaab to Colin and he will look after you as Colin is one of my customers.
There are other independent Saab specilaists in Co. Cork, Co Meath, Co. Waterford, Co Tipperary & Co. Limerick, just PM me for details.

And to all other Saab 9-3 owners (new shape from 2003 onwards) reading this thread who have ONLY ONE WORKING KEY....
Please consider having a 2nd key programmed for your 9-3 as the new key needs an existing working key to enable programming.
Otherwise, wait until your only key gets lost, becomes damaged or malfunctions and look forward to a receiving a bill for say between €500 to €1,000, plus labour, programming and maybe recovery vehicle charges.

    Thank you

For the purposes of towing it tonight, there is a key point on the passenger door, is there an actual key within the electronic key that I can use to open the door and tow it? Thought I saw this before but can't see for sure online

In the top of the romote (where a key ring would go through) there is a key blade that just pulls out. This will open the doors (not sure if the alarm will be triggered).
HOWEVER, your steering lock will probably be on and the car will have to be towed with the front wheels lifted off the ground.

However, before having the car towed, have you changed the battery in the remote?
Seems strange that the remote worked for a few days and then gave up.
Please call 086 <by PM> if you need any further information.

Just thought..... When you have gained entry into the car, try the key in the ignition switch to see if the steering lock disengages.

Anybody got an idea what a second key for the older, 2001 model costs? Have the original that works perfectly.

SAAB want well over €200 IIRC. Car is off the road but I might get it going in a few months. Just wondering.

    Thanks Murphys

I was onto Auto Key last night and they confirmed the same as you about the key.

They were really helpful, the blade key opened the car and and the electronic key started it as normal so was able to drive it home.

The electronic key wouldnt open the doors however after we drove it they started to work fine again.

Dropping the key over on Saturday to them to have a look and fix whats needed.

    thanks all great help

No worries, I'm glad you got the car home.
Regardless of whether or not your existing key can be repaired or not, please buy a 2nd key and have it programmed.
If you want to get an alternative quote, then please read post number 5.
