    Hi

Hope someone can help, I had a consultation with Optical Express a few months ago and was told I was compatible with laser eye surgery quoted €3700. I had a consultation with Optilase on Sunday gone. They told me I'd only be eligible for PKR which was a cheaper laser that took longer to recover from quoted me €2990. I was supposed to hear back from them on Tuesday, heard nothing rang today Thursday to be told I was not suitable. That they'd have my consultant contact me. Obviously I don't want to take any unnecessary risks but how is it that Optical Express think I'm a suitable candidate. Have they different technologies that would mean I'd be suitable with one but not the other any advice please (have saved the money and had my heart set on glasses free life

I was with a fella, he was going into the surgery and was told at the last second by the surgeon that he wasnt suitable. He had to put his glasses on and leave. He looked dissapointed. He would have gone through two sets of tests before this approving him. It really comes down to the individual surgeon. I wouldnt take risks. I had it done about 5 weeks ago.

I just rang Optical Express they've told me there technology is some of the best in the world "used by nasa" I'm aware this is marketing spiele. They pulled up my records from last year booked me in fore another consultation tomorrow. However mentioned that the price was now €5000. I've told them I don't want to waste anyone's time but can not will not pay that much. Was told they'd work something out. I know its my eyes there important and there are risks involved but if it is a case of different technologies that one is superior to the other. Might I add I've saved for nearly a year for this :(

di dthey say why you weren't suitable? Is it related to the corneal thickness? My corneas were not thick enough as I have moderate shortsightedness and they would have had to laser off a good bit. but they wouldn't have been enough left in case I needed it corrected after (or something like that - not sure of the exact terminology) so I was offered that PKR too by Optilase. And Optical Express ruled me out completely of any treatment. So different to your case. But I would ask, if you go for another consultation , for the facts and figures. If corneal thickness, what is their cutoff, what is yours, etc? Then make your own decision based on that. and €5000 sounds very expensive.
I know how disappointing it is when you are all psyched up to get it done. My consultations were about 5 years ago so might try again if technology has improved. I am sick of forking out a fortune in contact lenses.

I got turned down by optilase few years ago. Or rather my age profile was wrong, late 30s at the time, I could have got the op done but the middle age regression was going to kick in and they advised I didnt get it due to how I wear glasses, ie I wasnt going to be doing that much sports any more and as Id be taking off glasses, if I got the op done, Id be putting more on for reading.

I was puzzled but looked it up and sure enough what theyed said was true. who knew? (yeah, some of ye did but noone I asked had heard about it)

I get my lenses off daysoft for last 6 years. very happy with price and quality for the 1-2 times a week I need them. Im looking 20 years of buying lenses before Id recover the cost of the op.

They've said that there is a bulge in the back of my eye it was steep cornea distabalised, she recommend I not get laser at all, and try lens surgery just priced this its over €5000 I've saved the €3700 financially I just cant do it.

I understand you've your heart set on correction but I'm afraid medical advice is not permitted and posters cannot advise you on any medical procedures.

Thread reopened and moved to the Eyeglasses & Contacts & Eyecare forum. Please take note of their charter

Doesn't look good for Optical Express does it? I had a some what rushed consultation with them and I didn't go through with it as I felt they were like second hand car dealers in their approach. Had consultation with Optilase and was hands down better!

I got Lasik done over 6 weeks ago with Optilase and all good.

Late 30s was wrong profile? I got mine done 7 years ago at 43.... Best money I ever spent.
