Nest....opinions?

    Morning,

I am in the process of getting the Nest system installed with an oil fired burner through Electric Ireland. So far the engineer came out and said it will not be a standard install due to the burner I have, and would have to come back. It is a Firebird, around 12 years old.

So now I am having second thoughts about the whole thing; what are your opinions lads on the Nest? Is it worth it? Any problems with the burners after install? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I have a firebird that's about the same age. On mine the existing thermostat controls the pump but the burner remains on all of the time (as much as it needs to be)

This seemed a bit nuts to me if the nest had figured out we didn't need the heating on yet it would still be cycling to keep the temp up.

At the minute I've bypassed the thermostat, which is behind the fridge anyway, and have semi automatic control over the mains feed to the boiler via a relay. My intention would be to replace this relay with the nest heat link but I'll either need to put a beefier relay in or have one control the other.

Type of burner should not make any difference, assuming you are describing the problem correctly.

I suppose you know that back of fridges produce lots of heat. This will turn off your stat long before room reaches temp.
