the past three of four days i have heard this weird clicking noise (like when you stick something in the spokes of a bike) coming from my 2005 audi a4 2.0tdi. Today however the car made a rattling noise on acceleration followed by a smell like burning clutch. the car gave one or two small coughs but i drove 200 meters to the house and turned it off. When I go to start it up it wont turn at all. Now i was due to get the flywheel sorted this weekend as that has been rattling for a few weeks. Im just wondering could this be linked? doesnt sound too good!

Was the clicking noise only when the car was moving or all the time when the engine was running? Did you have any warning lights on the dash? Have you checked the oil level to see where it's at?

clicking noise would come and go. got progressively louder over few days. was noising pretty much all the time the engine was running. very noticeable when you accelerate and then let off the accelerator. no warning lights on dash. all levels were perfect and car not overheating. thanks for your reply

    could be lots of things

    injector gone

or the drive to the oil pump fails and wrecks everything - about €4000ish for a block maybe ?

i suppose its a definite that the engine is gone so? car is hardly worth 4000 so not worthwhile fixing if that the case.

When you say not turn over is the starter motor trying to engage?

you'd want to check it out properly first before making any decisions

the lights on dash do dim when i turn the key so i would be thinking that the starter is trying to engage ya
