Sorry if it in the wrong area.
I have being looking around boards for the last few weeks and can see its huge, there is a forum for almost anything you can think of.
It got me wondering just how large is boards, if it was to be downloaded onto a hard drive and put in a time capsule for people in the future to look at and see what life was like today how much space would it take.
Would it be 100gb in size? maybe more, maybe less, anyone have a guess at the size.

    Interesting question.
    Back in 2003 http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=77391

Not really a Blog/Wiki issue, moving to Feedback that often deal with similar questions.

It really depends how you want to define what constitutes Boards and the data you want to keep.

The raw data in the database is knocking on the door of 40GB at this stage. But that is purely the text of posts, user data and configuration details etc. The code is a few GB to. If you wanted to store all the access data, you're looking at around 8GB. Per day. All of the attachments and images are close to 3 TBs. I couldn't give a figure on including the likes of YouTube videos, tweets etc.

40Gb seems insanely small for a site of this size.

Would be nice to put it through winrar, copy it onto a usb stick and be able to say that boards.ie is in your hand

40Gb seems insanely small for a site of this size.

To put it in perspective, that's roughly the equivalent of 162 copies of the 32-volume Encyclopædia Britannica set. That's a lot of text....
