Can any one offer some advice.. While I was driving yesterday up a hill my car popped out of gear and now i cannot get it into gear at all. I got a new clutch in September so I know it cant be the clutch. When the car is switched on it wont go into any gear. My car is parked along a main road I'm waiting on a mechanic 2 days now to come and collect it. I have a ford fiesta 03

It sounds like the clutch is gone to me , if the car will go into gear when the engine is off then it's likely the clutch is at fault , that's why it won't engage when the engine is running.

Did you change the clutch release bearing when fitting the new clutch? If it was a gearbox issue the car wouldn't go into gear on or off.

It's rare but new clutch's can wear out , bad fitting could be the cause , or a piece coming loose inside. Either way you need to get it to a garage, did you buy the new clutch OEM or aftermarket?

Is the clutch pedal soft when you press it? I've had a problem where the cable slipped after getting a new clutch put in only a few hours before hand. Problem fixed with a 10 and a 13 spanner.

Had the same problem in my focus after I got the clutch and flywheel done. The gear cable disconnected at the gearbox end of it. It just needed to be put back together and re-connected. Right pain to happen after sending it in to get the clutch done on it!

Could be a leaking slave cylinder or an air pocket in it.

    May need topping up?

Edit: With the car engine on, if you pump the pedal for ages back and forth, will it slip into gear?
