How far do you travel for your regular game of Golf?

How far is your club from your house?

Mine is 4kms away and takes less then 10 minutes.

    How far would you travel?

I think 30 minutes would be the limit. Mainly because any longer would make playing a few holes on Summer's evenings difficult.

It takes me 4 minutes to get to my club.

I'd never travel more than 15mins to a club. It's a long enough day as it is with the round alone

Somewhere between three minutes and five minutes depending on the colour of the set of traffic lights I have to pass through. Serious bonus as this is my first year at my local course as I had always travelled 35 minutes or longer. Even though it is still so early in the year I am getting an amount of golf played.

It's about 35-45mins door to door which involve two modes of transport and 10 minutes of walking!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,185 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    7 mins.

    Wouldn't go past 15 mins.

I go down play 6, - back in just over 90 mins. (2 par 3s on this loop)

About 60 second walk from my front door to the first Tee, no joke

My home course is about 12 mins from work but 55 mins from my house. Suits a few holes after work (which is my main time to play) but sometimes a bit far for the weekend when you add in travel time. Still I don't mind as its a lovely friendly place to play golf.

Might just have to rejoin a second course closer to home for weekend golf!!

12 mins drive for me. 30 mins would even be too long for me. I have young kids and it wouldn't wash at home.

    11km- 15minutes, wouldn't go past 30min

I have 2 courses 10 minutes away from me but I prefer to drive 30 minutes to my Club. Simply because there's a better atmosphere and the people are nicer there.

5 mins from my door to the clubhouse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭markthespark77

2 min drive, very handy for few holes in the eve..
would do up to 25 min drive..

Just over the half hour, worth passing lesser courses along the way...

    20-35 minutes, depends on traffic.

That's 12 mins 40 seconds per hole Fix. Excluding 14 mins travel time. Nice

Funny you say that - I had an option of joing a couple of championship big links - but they were in that 1/2 hour journey time extra.

When I weighed it all up - I also felt many of these would be longer rounds / harder and not as easy to just turn up and play 6.

But , whatever makes you happy.

I do think if you join a top club and play in top conditions - it is hard to go to golf at a lower level.

I would be fast - but just lucky with the six loop , that they are the short third of course. Start and end at car park - class :D
She would hardly know I was there - but too honest (lol)

Just looked at watch there for today - golf time 1hr15 mins - played 2 balls.

    5 mins away.
Most would travel is 20 mins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭BOB81

25 mins drive for me and wouldn't go beyond a half hour drive if i could help it. There are couple of good courses half the distance away but they are in the €2k plus per year price bracket so can't justify them at the moment.

5 minutes walk to the first tee but about 2 minutes if I want to jump on at the 13th hole!

Last year it was about 40 minutes drive!

I don't know myself since the start of 2015 :)

25 mins to regular course but only 10 mins to course at home where I'm a country member

Used to live 2 min walk from first tee but house didn't meet standards needed for a new born. Moved 15/20 mins away now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,893 ✭✭✭alxmorgan

20 mins. 30 would be limit.
Would love it to be closer as 40 min round trip makes a few sneaky evening holes tough to manage with kids

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,331 ✭✭✭mike12

Used to be 25 away but moved to 5 mins away. Handy for a bit of practice in the evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 364 ✭✭xFROSTY Gx

It's only a 60 second drive from my house to my club. Then it could be another 3-20 mins to actually get onto the island depending how the ferry is going :pac:

Have to say I'm jealous of how close a lot of people live to their courses !!

Ten minute drive, ideal for playing a few holes in the evening. It's also on my route home from work.

    Me too.

A lot of people are saying 30 mins is the absolute limit. What if that was your only option? Give up golf?

I'm 40 minutes. I do have several other options, but they either involve forking out several grand (for both me and my wife) to get in or settling for a mediocre course which I don't really want as I play at least twice a week. I'll make the investment and join somewhere closer at some point. Having a course you can afford and want to be a member of very close to you is a great bonus to where you live.

To be fair I'm not too badly off. My home course is my nearest course too and is reasonably priced and I do like it.
It's probably 25 mins with any traffic so 50 mins is a bit much for a few quick holes during the summer. Compare that to 20 of the 10 min brigade and it's a huge difference.

And come 'ere....your wife plays golf...my sympathy for you has greatly lessened :D

Agree - depends where you live,

In leinster the max you would have to drive for a good course is 30 mins.

But - depends also if your standards are very very high.

Similar enough situation, I'm 30mins each way (17 miles and traffic). I was previously a member of a course 15mins away which was convenient but for similar money the extra distance entails a better standard of course and facilities along with the club itself being better run. There are other good quality cources within 20mins but incur an additional 50% membership premium.

I wouldn't say my standards are too high, but I do know that several courses which are close to me - while a pleasure to play once in a while - are ones I would get bored with after 6 months playing twice a week. I also feel a bit loyalty bound to my club and it's members now, so making a move will be difficult for me. I would give my right arm to be within 15 minutes though :(

I'm only 5/10 mins away myself driving and there's a good few good courses within a 20 minute radius! the joys of country living in the midlands :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭Carpo86

I'm about 35-40 minutes away. It is quite far and now that I'm working reasonably long hours it basically takes any chance of evening golf out of the question.

I know quite a few playing there at this stage though and it's good value for a good quality course.

I do have a course on my doorstep (literally) but it's prohibitively expensive (because of its location rather than its quality) so it's not even a option. The other 'local' courses would also fall into this bracket.

If/when I move again, if I have a more reasonably priced course in the immediate vicinity I'd be very tempted to join there for the added convenience.

35 minutes door to door. its one of the problems where I am.
but to be fair if it was 15 minutes door to door, I'd only be saving myself 40 minutes all in.

We either love our golf or have too many courses here - or both.

Depending on traffic between 7 and 10 mins!

Previous club, depending on M50 could be in excess of an hour

    No brainer why I moved
