Masthead or aerial have failed

Hi folks, we lost all Saorview channels on our TV's via a an attic fitted aerial

I initially did a retune and didn't find any channels and did another and found some. Checked strength and quality via menu on TV and the strength was 95-100% but would drop momentarily, the quality was 0% but would jump occasionally.

I gingerly got up into my attic (back injury at moment :( ) and the power supply for the Masthead Amp is illuminated. I checked the connections on the Masthead itself

Swapped the powered cable between connections, no change in quality. I have two signal cables coming from the box one to a splitter for our bedroom and sitting room. I could only check this by sight as the back won't let me reach it, but it looked to be ok. Have another one going to my neighbor (just in case they were to ever get rid of Sky).

So considering something has failed (I would imagine) is it more likely to be the masthead amp or the aerial or indeed might it be the power supply.

Turning the gain down on the amp does reduce the signal strength, if that helps the diagnoses.

    Thanks in advance.

If you're in Swords, you're not going to be receiving from the Truskmore transmitter: this is listed with an ongoing 'antenna fault', with works planned for 10th & 11th March.

If it's a problem at your own end that can't be attributed to an external cause, like something recently erected in the signal path, I'd be suspecting the masthead power supply. It wouldn't need to fail totally, to cause trouble.

Another comment I'd make is that if the installer of that aerial does outdoor work, I hope he doesn't have the aerials upside down like that one, with the dipole/connection housing just asking to fill up with water.

Cheers for the reply, no the aerial was me, as part of the trouble shooting I changed direction by 180' and so probably put it upside down in returning it back to its original direction. It's pointed north towards Kippure.

Will ask the brother in law to check out the power supply for me, I'd end up shutting down all power in north county Dublin if I went near it.

Kippure is to the south of Swords. If it's actually pointed at Clermont Carn, it should be vertically polarised. (Rotate 90 degrees on its lengthwise axis, have elements perpendicular to the ground.)
