Shur pack it wiIh ptfe tape and plumbers hemp. Be grand...

Thats exactly what greeted me when I went to service it! Along with a nylon washer. Pain in the hole. It had a really bad rocker cover leak when i bought it. Thought that was why the sump was wet :/

    Been there.

I thought I was fierce posh recently buying a new OE sump nut (integrated plastic seal).
The first clue should have been the ball of ptfe and hemp that greeted me when taking out the old one.
The second clue should have been the old plug was bigger than the new one - but who compares oily sump plugs right? Lesson learned...

Put original sized bolt into oversized threads and made a complete liathroidi of what must have been ropey job anyway because it was still dripping with all that muck in there.

Just home from work and had a present waiting for me. Been a while since I had to change anything like this on a car. Hopefully the weather is OK tomorrow.

Tackled this this morning. Bit more too it than expected. Was following a "shortcut" way of doing it on YouTube which turned out to be a load of crap. Didn't have time to do it the long/proper way because I've work soon. Will get it done on Saturday. Bit disappointed but wasn't sure what to expect from that video.

Had similar experience last night with a belt tensioner. Anyone who tells you a 3/8 drive can be used to lever the tensioner on a mini but neglects to mention only a special slimline tool can be used to replace the special manufacturers tool.... deserves a kick in the tool.

Nothing worse than a job going against you, dont have the proper tools or if you're caught for time. If I had started an hour earlier it'd be done by now. Ah well. That's what Saturdays are for

If I had checked it before putting it on jackstands, removing wheel, removing wheel arch liner rounding some of the weak plastic screws in the process... But when neither Haynes nor an online guide mention it...

Ah shur I got to have a gander at the problem area anyway and rule out on possible cause.

I'm intrigued. Imaginary clutch catch you out with the auto?

Been there with "peel yourself off windscreen" auto experience Btw!

Thats a balls. A little 3/8 ratchet probably wouldn't have had enough leverage though. I know my standard 15 spanner hadnt a hope against the alfa tensioner. Is there much tension in the belt? Normally they say you shouldnt be able to twist it much more than 90 degrees.

Oh the ratchet was desperation. Not what they are meant for. First plan was breaker bar and a bit of pipe if needed.

Plenty of tension. Something not quite right in the loop though. May just be a belt contaminated with oil, there's a reason the engine bay was washed before it was handed back to me. Or some pulley or something being driven by a pulley is a bit off.

For the price of a belt I thought I'd try eliminate that seeing as its easy.... except with standard driveway hero tools.

I do!! Threads were mangled when i got it. Tried retreading it but only half worked.. Made a balls of it tbh, went in at an angle. Its tricky to do lying on your back. Dont think id try it again on the ground like that. You really need your eye behind to line it up straight.

Drop me an aul pm sure :D

As for that tensioner, its a wanker alright. Its because of where it is (try a v6 someday...) Usually use a pipe over the spanner to get the bastard to move

Just the bare supports to lift the wheels? Or a full "floor" - ie what happens if the yoke above you is leaking brake fluid / diesel / oil ?

    Guess your car gets wrecked.

The system is that you drive onto the ramp and it is lifted in place above the car on the ground

If you need to leave early the car on the ground has to be moved to let the other down

edit see http://www.doubleparking.ie/ it's the double parking one.

I have a pet hate of cars that burn alot of oil a tiny bit is ok but topping a yoke up every few k km fcuk that. 1/2 litre every 15k km is ok I suppose it depends on the car. I've never had to top up a car ive had with oil inbetween services that's what Id expect I suppose when the mileage gets really high it's going to burn abit more.

It was cars with that engine built between 2009 and 2011
Audi is fixing them for free in the US
UK is a case by case.
Guess I can figure what you will get from Audi Ireland.

    Problem is dodgy pistons/rings.

The vvti engine had that too. Wrong sized piston rings or something

Ya, had to top up the mondeo there last week for the first time ever, quite the emotional moment.

Focus needs to be looked at more regularly, has a small leak around one of the seals, needs a new seal, but to get to the seal, the timing belt needs to come off. Fairly big job. Have to attend to it sooner or later.

Not all fortunate enough to drive newer cars though, my Alfa gets though about a litre every 2000 miles... Hardly the end of the world to check it every so often.....

Amazing all the things that get sorted out in the US but not over here. Funny how the EU aren't all over this... hmmmm....

Mines the same, about 1l per 2k miles, mind you, M54's are no strangers to a bit of oil :p
