Opening silage pit

Is it possible to open a silage pit for about three weeks and close again without too much waste.

I'll probably have to do this as am running short on bales.

Was hoping to be able to get away without opening the pit but looks as if I'll have to now.

    Have around 30 sucklers.

You'll have about 6 inches deep of waste along the pit face if using a sheer grab, not sure if sealing it again at the front will make much difference as any time we ever did that we still would have same amount of waste when it came to time to fill pit again

Sealing up the face a waste of time. Just grows mushrooms. Seal the top cover tight along the top and when you go to refill, just cut the waste face off with the grab.

Why not buy a few altogether

    Few bales ?

    Was thinking bout that alright.

Don't know if it's worth opening a pit for a couple of weeks.
