    Hi,

I'm heading to Madrid next weekend for a stag party. We are trying to get a feel for the place. There is 7 of us going looking for a good weekend that isn't too expensive or rowdy. Could someone recommend the following

    1) Best area/areas for nightlife
    2) Good restaurants (Steakhouse or tapas near the nightlife areas)
    3) Best Irish bar for watching sport (want to watch the 6 nations on Saturday)
    4) Two or three bars (possibly good rooftop bar or somewhere with live music)
    5) Two or three nightclubs
    6) An actvity non boozr related to break up the weekend
    6) Any other relevant advice

    Thanks

Heya, Madrid's a great place to spend a weekend in so hope you have a good 'un.

It's a big city so whereabouts will yez be staying?

1, 4 & 5) Best areas would probably be around Malasana, near the Plaza de Espana, loads of small places round there that are really cheap. If you want somewhere bigger and jazzier, there's Kapital on Calle Atocha which has 7 floors with different styles on each one. It also costs €20 to get in, iirc. There's a cheaper place called Joy Esclava that I always enjoy heading to, it's just around the corner from Puerta del Sol if you head in the direction of Opera.

    2) Good restaurants I can't really be too sure, I never really ate in big ones. There are some decent chains like VIPs or Nebraska, they just do a mix of Spanish food, American food and sandwiches. There's a chain of small tapa bars called Museo del Jamon which I really liked. They do a great ham, cheese and fried egg toasted sandwich (sandwich mixto con huevo).

    3) Two bars in the centre that I remember are Dubliners (somewhere near Sol) and O'Neills (which I think is on Calle del Principe near Sol). Dubliners is a bit crammed but always has the sport on. O'Neill's is bigger and has way more seating. Prices will be similar if not more than back home but that's down to the whole Irish Pub approach on the continent. Molly Malone's is another good one but it's a lot further out from the centre.

    6) If yez are interested in football, Real Madrid are playing Levante at home on Sunday night at 9pm. It wouldn't be a sell-out and I've got tickets for a similar match for €40. Or you could see Rayo (a bit outside the centre in a part called Vallecas) against Granada at 8pm on Saturday night. The tickets there'd be cheaper, maybe around €25. A match at Rayo Vallecano is something else, the atmosphere and philosophy of the club is something else altogether.

You could also go to the Retiro park and rent paddle boats or go to the Campo del Oeste and take a skilift across the park. There's also the three art museums near the Paseo del Prado (Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen Bornemisza) or what I always enjoyed is the train museum at the Cercanias station in Delicias.
