If your concern over whether to do a course depends on the number of hours, you should really re-think things.

In general all courses are supposed to require the same amount of time, however some courses have fewer contact hours. Engineering/science/medicine would be at the top due to all the labs and lectures. Arts courses don't always have this but you're supposed to spend the same amount of time in the library "self directed learning".

I've seen people skate through arts degrees, and get somewhat of a passable grade, but you don't want to be one of those.

Do a course that you are actually passionate about, enough to not care how many hours of lectures you have, and whether you can go home early on a Friday.

Actually, I was only wondering out of curiosity. I am really determined to do well in psychology and continue on to do my doctorate degree. I want a lot of hours to study for this, that's why I asked .

Hours in terms of lectures and tutorials for Arts are very light compared to stuff like engineering or medicine but you are also expected to do a large amount of independent research: most of your Arts degree knowledge comes from stuff you read yourself.
An Arts degree is very easy to pass but hard to excel in.

It's hard to give an exact estimate of hours as you're largely setting your own hours but if you enjoy the subject then you'll easily fly it, especially if you're reading related stuff in your free time. Especially if you're interested in pursuing it to doctorate level.

Thank you that's what I needed to hear :) if anyone had specific hours per week (classes only) it would be great.

Im second arts. Had 16 hours a week of class time each semester in first year
3 hours of lectures per subject and another hour a week of a tutorial per subject.

Second and Final year have about 12 hours a week of classes. 2nd year is worth 30% of final degree. OP what you are thinking about doing as your fourth subject in first year as you only name 3 subjects

Thank you. They changed the number of subjects to 3, for 3 years in Nuig starting next September :)
