I would have a 2.0 tdci with a dpf over a 1.8tdci without any day.

Could I just ask if you were to choose from the 1.8 and the 2.0 which would you go for and why?
I'm trying to buy wise and hope for as much hassle free motoring as possible

I've looked at the 1.8 focus too maybe Thatvwould be better?

Is that just in terms of power you would go for the 2l?

no that's in terms of reliability and power. I have a 2.0tdci and have never had an issue with the dpf.

I was wanting to avoid it altogether just so it's one other thing that won't go wrong and the cost if fixing/removing is mental
I'm looking at a 2010 one tw mk4 is there anything I should be looking for on the car with you being familiar with them
    Cheers

I would consider them a generally reliable car with no big maintenance bills

OP what sort of mileage are you doing if its low that is where most trouble starts.

DPF and other faults usually happen from only doing short runs as the car never gets to a good temp or cant burn out the contaminants.

You would be fine with that mileage.

They need good runs on motorway or such to get revs up.

Yeah but I know a few peop who do similar mileage on mixed roads ok 2 were focuses and major dpf trouble leadin to removal and remapping which is headache and more money
