Don't know Manchester, I only pass through there. But it's very easy to get from the airport to the city centre: lots of trains (fast ones take about 15 mins) to Manchester Piccadilly.

Well I was in Manchester a few weeks ago and they have the biggest penny's/primark in the world. If she likes penny's then that's a must. That's located in Piccadilly gardens, you can get a tram there from airport but you have to change trams along the way. It's close to Piccadilly station and there are loads of buses going there from the airports. I was over with my brother and only had a very quick look in primark, it's huge! Wish I could have had more time there, going back with my sisters later in the year. Market street is beside it and there is a shopping centre there too, lots of well known stores. Didn't have time to have a proper look around. Definitely worth looking into.
