Wicklow Building Regs

I hope someone might be able to answer my question...

We are in the middle of building a house in Wicklow and it was brought to our attention by a friend that we need to comply with part L of the building regulations - fuel efficiency etc. We had never even heard of Part L. No one has told us about it and even our architect doesn't know whether or not we need to comply.
The thing is we applied for and received planning permission way back in 2007 but we only started building last year. It's a self build (we started just before the law changed). We had our planning extended but we didn't need to reapply for it.
I can't find information on the Internet as to what particular part L applies to us.
If anyone has any idea of where we stand I'd love to hear it....

    Thanks a mill.

You need to comply with all Building Regulations...Parts A to M...and including Part L.

If you only started last year, it is Part L 2011 that you need to comply with.

DOCARCH - that little blue emoticon... that's my face every time we have to interact with our architect... 😅 Thanks so much for the quick response. I will read that link and figure out what to do next.

OP. Depending where u are in the build, I would suggest you look at the 2014 Part L, minus the 2014 renewable requirements, and use that as a minimum.
Any self build just sticking to the minimum requirements in the energy and other habitable aspects of the regs is missing a hugh opportunity to build well

An architect who doesn't know the building regulations? ?

That person should not be allowed anywhere near your building site.

    OP.

    1. Depending where u are in the build, I would suggest you look at the 2014 Part L,
    2. minus the 2014 renewable requirements, and use that as a minimum.
    3. Any self build just sticking to the minimum requirements in the energy and other habitable aspects of the regs is missing a hugh opportunity to build well
    1. 2011 part L
    2. All current regs and the above
    3. Agree with the sentiment, I think

Do you have a link to 2014 Part L ?

Thanks a mill for taking the time to reply. Its very confusing and frustrating when no one involved seems to know what we need to comply with.

We are making it as energy efficient as we can - solar panels, stove to heat water etc.

I am in the process of trawling through the links posted to see where we stand.

    Thanks again .

Bruce what is your expected BER rating? Have you lived up an assessor?
