    Hi all

I got a contract law assignment due Monday, the problem is:

Company A sends offer to company B on 1st of December offering to supply

Company A "misdirects" letter which delays its arrival to company B

Company B receives letter on the 8th of December, replies same day by post accepting terms of offer, asking if €500 was their best price

Company A believed that they reasonably could have expected to have heard from company B by the 4th of December, company A sells the items to a third party on the 6th of December

Company A sends e-mail on the 7th of December stating that the offer was withdrawn

Company B does not read e-mail until 5pm December 10th

    advise company B

can someone point me in the right direction of some relevant case law? sorry if I'm being a pest! wording of problem is specifically worded to be ambiguous.. Thank you!

Just open a copy of Chitty and you will have all the cases you need on it. Even a student textbook will provide dozens of references for issues like this. Don't expect a case that will answer the question comprehensively, break down the constituent issues and look at case law on each.

I would have thought the this basic caselaw should be on your contract law syllabus. In any event, there is a list of some caselaw relating to offer, acceptance, termination of offer here:

Sorry, I presumed that you were a law student.

Chitty on Contract is the most comprehensive and leading textbook on contract law. It's English, so you will need to check other books on exactly how this area has been interpreted in Ireland, but for the most part our contract is identical to England's so this will tell you what the law is and give all the references you could even need.

If there is a law library in your university they are guaranteed to have one. And it is worth checking to see if they also have a westlaw uk subscription that has it online.
