Hi, I'm trying to find out about the 1978 Gold Cup winner Midnight Court's background when he was in Ireland before joining Fred Winter. Does anyone know trained him in 1975/76 and which races he won that season?
    Thanks

    From the Airlie Stud website:

    MIDNIGHT COURT

1971 by The Magistrate - Midnight Fox
As a seven year old owned by Olive Jackson, trained by Fred Winter and ridden by John Francome, Midnight Court won the 1978 Cheltenham Gold Cup. Just a few months previously Capt. Tim Rogers had been presented with the top award at the Irish Bloodstock Breeders Association as leading breeder of winners on the flat. Midnight Court who was bred at Airlie, was not sold as a yearling but left at Airlie to develop. Toss Taaffe saw him at Airlie and bought him. After winning a bumper he was sold to Fred Winter.

Pat 'Toss' Taaffe, Tom's uncle I believe.

Thanks for the info, although I think the info on that link is a bit suspect (the breeding is surely incorrect?) and I believe Midnight Court must have won over hurdles in Ireland in 75/76.....if anyone has an old form book, don't know if they can check?
I could be wrong, but I thought Pat and Toss were brothers?

There was two Midnight Courts, one in the 70's and one in the 80's. The 70's one was the one above. The 80s one won over hurdles in Ireland . He raced up until he was 6 years in Ireland on the flat and over the jumps 46 starts 5 wins €20,104 [He was by alleged and was bought for $1,600,000 keenland july yearling]
