Car insurance claim & NCD expiry

Last year I was involved in a RTA which caused my car to be taken off the road.

Liability is still in dispute so I have had to purchase another car in the meantime.

Now due to the location of my workplace, I have decided to move home. So I no longer need a car to commute. I will surely sell my car after the move.

    Here's the question:

Will my no claims discount expire after a couple of years without a policy?

If so, I could just claim on my own insurance because I will lose my NCD anyway, and it will end the ongoing dispute?

    All responses are much appreciated.

    Cheers

NCB usually expires after 2 years here. Cannot answer your other question.

I can't see how it would end the disputed liability.

Well it would mean I no longer have to pursue the third party, because my insurer will then try to recover the cost of my claim. It will no longer be my responsibility.

And if they don't, if you decide to drive in the next 5 years, you'll not only be without your NCD, you'll have a claim to declare.
