    Hi guys and gals,
need some advice on races during the summer from 1/2 marathon distances upwards during july and august.
can you recommend to me which ones are best?
    thanks

Just look at last year's Berlin thread to see what people were doing. I did Dublin Race Series along with many others. Didn't race a Half, although did the Tace Series half as final LSR the week before Berlin.

Making a plan for running in a ½ marathon is important so that you know what you are getting yourself into and so that you can be realistic and prepared with your goals. If you're forced to do speed work under a blazing sun, reduce the distance of each effort and increase the recovery time "to let your body temperature drop below the boiling point”. According to natrun.com.au, a plan will help you monitor your progress as you get closer to your goal race and keep you on track.

I did the Longford HM five weeks out from the race. There's also a HM in Tullamore around that time and Portlaoise about a month earlier.

I'd disagree with much of this.

I wasn't going to run a half prior to Berlin, I'm following P&D and they prescribe races in weeks 12, 14 and 16, none of which are half Marathons.

But looking around what I see as potentially suitable are:

    Tullamore Half - Aug 29th
    Longford Half - Aug 30th
Athlone Half - September 12th (Personally I think this is too late I'd be tapering by then but for some it may be ok).

There are some shorter races I'm considering but for Half's they would be the main candidates. There's also the Rock N Roll half on August 2nd I guess but that is quite expensive depending on if you enter the AAI national half or not.

Finally in Tullaroan in Kilkenny there is a half on May 30th, but may be too early to call it a build up race for Berlin. Good Luck.

I did the escargot half in July, slightly early, but the only one that suited workwise, and I found that bang on as a prep race for Berlin.

I've just been reading last years thread on the Tullaroan Half in May and I reckon I may give that a go this year, sounds like a tough course but a good race.

My plan calls for a 15 mile run that day so fits perfectly.
