Gas boiler permanently heating the hot water tank

    Is it economical to leave the hot water zone on permanently so it keeps the hot water tank at the desired temperature and what if I set the boiler to 40 or 50 degrees but the tank thermostat is at 60?

    If there is a constant and regular usage of the hot water over a 24 hr period, then yes.

    Otherwise its a huge waste of money and energy.

    As the others said. Plus, if the boiler stat is at 40/50 then that's as hot as the cylinder will get.
    You can't store hot water below 60 degrees
