    Hi,

I'm looking for an interior designer to advise on decorating a 1950s 3-bed house. Would anyone have a recommendation with likely costs?

    Many thanks

Hi - sorry to hijack but have done some remodeling recently (knocked down a wall or 2 in a kitchen) and wanted some advice on things like design of built in shelving/wall & floor colours etc but am at a bit of a loss of where to look for advice.

As is common (I hope) our house has kind of evolved such that there isnt really any design element other than every wall being either beige or white. Whilst I like the thought of getting some advice when I look at either the interior design .ie website or some other google searches I may as well be looking into a big black ditch. Some websites are impressive but probably more focused at the top end 3 story over basement redbrick period pile which my suburban semi-d certainly isn't. Others seem to be mainly heavy drapes and patterned occasional chair such as would remind you of the worst excesses of that old RTE 'Showhouse' where some interior designers butchered a new build.

Has anyone actually used the services of an interior designer before and if so what were the ballpark costs - much as I would like to get advice I think I'd recoil at paying €500 to have someone give me advice on paint shades....(based in Dublin btw)

    Thanks

I hired an interior designer last year to help design and furnish 3 rooms in our newly renovated period house. She charged €650 up front and I was to pay a further €650 before completion. I had 3 mtgs with her but found her very all over the place..spent her time browsing through pictures on Pinterest .. She sent a few mood boards ..I did go ahead and order a number of pieces for my daughters bedroom but returned everything as it just didn't work in the bedroom. I felt she didn't take room proportion etc into account... Very disappointed ..the upshot I have spent €650 and gained nothing...I can't get my money back which is very annoying..
