You rarely ever hear arm/disarm beeps on car alarms anymore, was there some regulations passed to outlaw them?

My aftermarket alarm has the chirp sound :D

I'd also like to know the answer op.

At a guess, manufacturers may have turned down the sensitivity of shock sensors etc. to only sound the alarm if a car is broken into . . . which is rare.

Edit: Oh wait I misread. I thought you asked why there are less alarms going off! Can anyone answer this one too?

They were a tad silly anyway, no?

Plus they were an audible "heads up" to people if you'd forgotten to lock your car?

Only American cars have these, My lexus doesn't have a beep. it can beep if it wants to but its not configured to do so from the dealers when they ship them out. I think its something like that anyway. Am i bothered, meh. I do like the way it folds in the mirrors when its locked, thats indication enough for me that its locked.

I prefer it not there was annoying every time a neighbour set or reset their alarm.

The same with audis. it can be configured if you want it to beep

Irritating and unnecessary, I should say. Flashing the hazards in various set patterns is indication enough.

I can turn the beep on or off for lock and unlock in the icc/radio. I have the beep on for lock only as I like to know that it has actually received the remotes signal and locked the car. Don't need it on unlock as you find out soon enough when you open the door.

I disabled the initial beep but my car still has a louder beep if I press the lock button when it is already locked. Really handy for locating your car in huge parking lots. Especially after sports events or concerts.

I'd suspect it's down to noise regulations in various EU markets.

Quite a few EU countries are very intolerant of sirens, beeps, etc

If you left a house alarm ringing in France, you'd be most likely up in court!
