GAA transfer

    Looking for some advice.

I transferred from my own club last year due to work. I am very homesick haven't been home at all since Christmas bar one night and I want to transfer back to my club.

I don't feel I've much of a chance getting a look-in in my new team in comparison to being a regular at home.

Due to work, chances of getting home for training are minimal and I was wondering if my new team would be understandable or if there are groups of country players training in Dublin at a reasonable standard (players on senior club teams) to suit.

    Thank you.

Any club would be understandable of you wanting to transfer back to your home club

There are a group of country lads that usually train at the Civil Service Grounds in Islandbridge.

This is separate from the Civil Service Football Team who often train on the same nights.

This is a structured training session with a trainer of a reasonably high standard (club senior/intermediate) but i am not sure of the actual arrangement regarding payment or contact details.

I typically saw them on a Tuesday or Thursday evening around 7/7.30 but have not been around that direction this year.

It'd be a bit of a kick to that club though. You transfer to them, train with them and play with them. Now you want to transfer back to your own club, but keep using them for training. If you didnt transfer in the first place, I'd say there would be no issue, but its a bit cheeky to go about it that way. Obviously you didnt intend it that way, but from their point of view they might not appreciate it. They could well be perfectly fine with it though.

As mentioned I would like to stay with this club etc. There is no proper affection for the club. While the guys are 100% they're not the same lads I remember growing up with

It depends on the area of Dublin you are in. Civil Service has alot of country fellas. Realt Dearg are fantastic and are 95% country players. They often have friends from the country at training who go home for matches at weekends. It is great training, don't be fooled by the grade the lads are in. We had to start in Junior F and work our way up! I believe Kilmacud allow people to train with them if living in Dublin but you would be one of a large number there so might be twice as homesick??

yeah I totally get where you are coming from alright. Best you can do is talk with the manager of the team you are training with and see what he thinks.

if it's between two counties no issues if its within a county you've probably missed a deadline

    Hi all,

I hope someone can please help me.

I'm looking to transfer without my own county. But I'm being told because each county has its own by laws I must wait until January.

I have not played, trained, payed membership or took part in activities in the club im currently looking to transfer from for 3 or more years.

Surely is it not just a formality of the club allowing me to transfer, I know they would not have an issue with me leaving as I am the other side of the county now.

    All comments/help greatly appreciated.

Just to clarify, do you mean you're looking to go to a different country or stay in the one county? You can transfer to another county anytime, within the county it's between seasons , there's a specific window to apply. Also it can be refused, which isn't normally likely between counties

its a transfer within the county.

Yeah you might have to wait till next year. Talk to the secretary in the club you want to go to and they'll be able to know what the dates are etc. Shouldn't be a problem at that stage unless there's a very compelling reason not to grant a transfer, but unfortunately this year you'll not be able to switch.
