Anyone know if this guy is straight up or a bit bendy.. A google showed this
"Jason O' Brien Cars Limited was set up on Tue the 12th of Sep 2006 in Cork. Their current status is Dissolved with the company closing on Fri the 6th of Aug 2010. The company's current directors Margaret O'Brien and Jason O'Brien have been the director of 3 other Irish companies between them; 2 of which are now closed. According to our records, Jason O' Brien Cars Limited has had a judgment registered against it."

Mate of mine is looking at a car there.

    Thanks for any help

I almost bought a car from him a while back, seemed decent enough. Car want too badly priced either, it was sold though before I made my mind up :(

Generally overcharge for their cars, not very friendly either. I was walking around looking at one of their cars and they didn't even show interest.

john o brien the father runs it with his son been in business years as john o brien cars bit of a mixed reputation their cars are clean prices low and do great business but dont take any chances - get history check mechanic to check and dont put too much faith in warranty

Making sure he runs a Check on the car before he goes any further, just hoping to get some first hand experience of dealing with him and after sales stuff

    Thanks for all the replies

I was thinking the last thread had gotten deleted.

OP I have seen people who have had great experiences with this garage and those which have ended in legal disputes.

It's very much a garage where you keep your eyes open and check the car out rather than the garage.

Warranty backup seems to be handled well for some and poorly for others.

Eyes open wide but I'm not saying don't buy from them.

    Wouldn't go near the place.

Bit of character background on the father and son.

I'm aware of their reputation on here (I read the threads before the deletes) and was avoiding them because of that. Despite that, a car came up that my O/H liked, and we checked it out and bought it. It came serviced, valeted, and delivered. Salesman was friendly, seemed honest enough, and made a call when he couldn't answer a question about the car's history. No complaints.

As with any car, do your own checks and don't rely on warranty or word.

I bought a fiat uno van from the father in the early 90s i think he was up in barrack street at the time and had no problems with them but i suppose times change

A number of years back my colleague from Poland tried to buy a car there. His English wasn't great so I went to with him to help out. They agreed on a sale. When he came back to settle, the dealer said he had sold the car to someone else and was very aggressive about it. Cannot trust them.

That was my thread I presume. It was deleted months after the last activity on it for some reason - even though nothing libellous was said. Although if it was still there, it may give the OP reason to carefully consider their purchase.

It's all about the car ultimately and not the dealer.

If the car is right (check it thoroughly and carefully) and the price keen enough I'd consider buying from this guy.

Mightn't put much value on his warranty mind you.

Did he pay a deposit? If not, it's just chat.

My sister was interested in a car they had in June 2013. I rang them about it, nice enough on the phone and he even stayed behind to let me get down to him after work. (I work in Newbridge in Kildare). Car was fine, cheaper than anywhere else (1.6 petrol which he just wanted rid of as it was there a few months). Car has been faultless since.

At the very least he could have called the guy, but my issue is more about the way the guy acted when I tried to find out what happened, he was very aggressive and rude for no reason.

    Deposit?

You think it's OK for a guy to be a dick in business, that's up to you. But when somebody comes onto boards.ie looking for a reference I will warn the guy. My interactions with this car dealer were among the most negative experiences I have encountered as a consumer in Cork. Are you one of the O'Briens?

You think it's OK for a guy to be a dick in business, that's up to you. But when somebody comes onto boards.ie looking for a reference I won't advise doing business with someone like that. My interactions with this car dealer were among the most negative experiences I have ever had as a consumer in Cork. Are you one of the O'Briens?

You still haven't answered the question. :pac: Simple fact is that regardless of what is agreed, unless you pay a deposit, you have nothing. I'm sure if they held cars for everyone that wobbled in with good intentions they'd soon be out of business. Imagine if it worked both ways and your friend agreed to buy but spotted something much better on the way back. Would he still go through with the deal? Probably not, and he'd be a fool if he did.

...and no, apart form being a one-time customer, I have no affiliation with them or any of the staff. As I said earlier, I avoided them purely because of what I read on here, but when it came to actually buying a car, I have no complaints.

I can only speak from my own experience but I found Jason o Briens excellent to deal with.friendly salesman, smooth trade in sale and when my car bust a water pipe during warranty they gave me replacement car while they sorted it out for me.would have no problem recommending them from my experiences anyway...cheers..
