Is it possible to send a message privately from a mobile similar to calling privately, ie, where the number is blocked and doesn't appear?

No. Your number will always show up when sending a text.

Thanks for that. Thought as much. Any reason why?

Why would you want to send an anonymous text?

I'm not sure why, but generally if you text someone you would want them to txt you back, hence having the number displayed.

In a nutshell; because unfortunately some people are dickheads who would choose to abuse that anonymity, a person can choose not to answer a call from a private number but that option doesn't exist for text messages. (Unless we go down the road of apps and phones that can be set to accept messages from specified white-listed numbers only)

I can't really think of any good reason why it should be any different to be honest.

Yup. There are loads of sites online which offer the service, at a price. Sharkmail and the like offered the service in the past. A simple Google search will find you many.

Using it for fun with your friends and family, or to do a funny joke on your loved ones? Good on you! Have fun!

Using it to bully, harass, or cause issues?
Screw you. They could, if the Police really needed to, trace it. And you'd deserve it.
