Am planning a visit for the weekend and would like to fit in a round. Have noticed the triangle deal. Obv with missus in tow playing all three (dungarvan, west waterford and Gold Coast) is not a possibility

Can anyone shed any light on pros and cons of each?

    I've played 2 - haven't played Dungarvan.

West Waterford a great course - inland and away from wind.
Gold Coast would be wild if windy.

Gold coast is a stunning place on a nice summer day - but would be hard work in winter.

I'd rate West Waterford ahead of Gold coast. But gold coast has some fantastic views and some great coastal holes.

I've played all 3 quite a few times as we holiday regularly in the area.

West Waterford is the best as it offers a good challenge with a variety of hole types - water, woods, dog legs etc. I like Dungarvan too but that's probably because a) it's pretty flat like my home course Moate b) I got one of my best scores ever there on the way to 2nd prize in an open and c) it's the course where I got my one and only eagle so far! Gold Coast has some spectacular holes along the coast but most of it is run of the mill parkland and it tends to get a bit cut up by visitors to the nearby rental homes just popping out with a bucket of balls and bombarding the nearest green.

In terms of welcoming visitors West Waterford and Dungarvan are miles ahead of Gold Coast too.

Having played all three many times my preference would be Gold Coast. Admittedly you are very exposed to the elements here but by far the most enjoyable on a fine day. In relation to hospitality I would say you will be welcomed equally at all. Depending on when you are going the opens tend to be as follows, West Waterford Wednesday, Dungarvan Thursday and Gold Coast Friday if open competitions interest you. If you are travelling on Friday perhaps the open here might suit.Personally I would go 1 Gold Coast, 2 West Waterford, 3 Dungarvan but as previous posts have shown it is simply individuals choices as they are quite different. Check the forecast and calm and clear then Gold Coast every time.

    Agree with above.
just the wind this winter must have been savage on gold coast.

Golfers in Dungarvan are spoilt for choice. They're all pretty fine courses with not much between them. Within those small margins I'd rate them like this.

    Best course - West Waterford
    Best kept course - Dungarvan
    Best scenery - Gold Coast

yes unbelievable to have 3 course in the area but I've got to say played Dungarvan last Sept and the greens were atrocious. maybe its a one off?

    Must play Dungarvan now.

By the way - the place is perfect for a society weekend - the food is cheap and views very good in Gold Coast.

Class place for lads - who want to play golf - but not golf that is too hard.

Whichever one you pick you will enjoy, had not played West Waterford for years until last summer and it has matured beautifully, would rate it over the other two.

As Fixed says above. Great place for a society, especially just out of the school holiday season. Stayed at Gold Coast with a society a few years ago, Played Dungarvan day one and GC day two (to blow away the previous nights excesses!) was perfect. Looked after us very well. They even arranged for us to be dropped into town in the evening and collected us later so we could have a few shandies in the residents bar!
