Would prefer to watch a 14 inch black & white tv than to deal with three customer service again.

You'd be talking to Limerick from now on. What would so wrong about that?:)

Is this in celebration of O2 finally becoming Three?

One of the lads in work was telling me that in the UK these sort of offers are rife. He said they've been doing it for years, giving away playstations when you sign up to billpay.

Same in Canada. Around 2011, Rogers were giving away free Sony Xperia smartphones with free PS3s. Couldn't pass that one up.

pfft, giving away tv's is nothing new. I got a 14" samsung portable TV with my phillips fizz when I signed up for bill pay with Eircell in 1997 or 1998. Think I was moving from 088 to 087

TBH the three customer care was shoite but it was the crap coverage that did me in. Calls dropping in the centre of the city. Shoite 3G coverage. Just awful. Suppose the merger will improve that but I wouldn't touch them again until I hear that has drastically improved.

Had my first experience of 3 customer care yesterday with their online chat. Conversation went something like:
Me: Hi, I'm an O2 customer who just became part of 3 as part of the merger. I don't think I'm eligible for an upgrade yet but could you tell me when I will be?
Lucas: You will not be effected, everything will stay the same.
Me: Thanks but that's not what I asked, I was asking when I will be eligible for an upgrade?
Lucas: Let me check that for you.
    Me: Thanks

    10 minutes later....

Lucas: Systems are very slow, sorry, I am still checking.
    Me: No worries, thanks.

    5 minutes later....

Lucas: Unfortunately you are not eligible for an upgrade at this time.
Me: Again, that's not what I was asking. I know I'm not eligible now. I'm asking when I will be eligible.
Lucas: Let me check that for you.
Lucas: Hi, you are eligible for an upgrade. Will I pass you onto my colleague for you to order online?
Me: Sure, that would be great! Thanks.

    Puts me through to colleague.

John: Hi how can I help you?
Me: Can you read the above transcript or will I summarise my previous chat you with your colleague?
John: I can see your previous chat, one moment and I'll catch up.
    Me: Thanks
John: Okay let me check that for you. What make and model would you like, and I can get you more information?
Me: Either a Samsung Note 4 or a HTC One M8 please.
    John: Thanks, one moment.

    10 minutes later...

John: Unfortunately you are not eligible for an upgrade at this time.

It was everything I'd heard about and more.

you should post that in the Three forum too.

to be honest, Three customer service is fine for me. I don't bother them, they don't bother me.

I buy my own phone, so don't need to go thru that upgrade dance and have a sim-free plan, with decent coverage, that only costs €20 per month (ex-vat). As long as we can continue like this, I'll be happy and they'll be happy.

This is generally the way with most operators. If you aren't trapped in a 24 month contract with a "free" phone you seem to have very few problems and very little need to call them.

Once you get stuck in a 24 month contract they can basically do what they want to you.
