can the glass on an s5 be changed without doing the screen. local shop wants 180 euro to do it as he says he needs to do the screen aswell.

the screen is fine its only the glass can this b changed on its own?

Very tricky job, they are bonded together and when you try to seperate them with heat the screen can come with it in bits ruining it. 10min job to replace the lot compared to a longer and trickier process to do just the glass. I wouldn't take on the job anyway.

thanks for advice but 180 is too much to pay to replace a screen that's perfect

Probably looking at close to €150 for the part itself.
Google s5 digitizer and see how cheaply you can get one. You'd fit it yourself with a youtube tutorial. Nothing to it.

Well if your not a bit tech minded it's far from nothing to it. You can easily damage other parts if your not careful and gentle with it.
The you tube videos are good but the part is expensive. 180 euro Seems excessive.

It's on Amazon uk for 130 sterling. So maybe 180 to fix it isn't that bad?

I paid 180 in November but then my phone dropped into loo after a few pints...the phone drowned :/
So basically I lost the water resistance once I got the 'job' done.

I replaced a Nexus 4 screen over Christmas. It would have cost 150€ in a repair shop and the screen alone was about 100€ on Amazon so i would have gotten rid of the phone or sold it for 30€ for parts.

In the end i got a screen for 35€ on Aliexpress and did the job myself with a YouTube tutorial, no problems at all. Judging by serial numbers and appearance, the screen i bought came from the same factory as the original.

If you do it just make sure you have all tools before starting (adhesive, small screwdrivers, heat gun or hair dryer and plastic separating tool).

I agree with the above that doing the glass alone is not really an option.

I did my first ever one with a youtube tutorial, never did it before, 20mins start to finish. There is literally nothing to it.

Replaced one for €25. Got the kit off of eBay. An hours work and great sense of satisfaction later I had a replaced screen

You should do it for the op?
you sound like you know what your doing.
I would do it but only with my own phone. Then if something goes wrong it's my fault No one else's. I'd hate to have 180 euro turn into a 600 Euro fix.or no phone lol
