illnoise great album but he can't live off that forever..he has got very boring to me with his last few albums/songs ..illnoise hinted at awesome but he never delivered subsequently (thats imo obviously!).Hopes for this album remain muted.Still would be interesting to see live, definitely has the talent.

Wouldn't agree with that at all. The Age of Adz was brilliant.....great gig at the Olympia a few years back.

Yeah, he's pre Illinois stuff was great which he seems to be returning to.

Illinois and its subsequent tour was fantastic and maybe a career high point.

And as Gonzovision has said, Age of Adz was also great and that tour was as unique a live experience as I can remember.

While all these phases might not be everyones cup of tea, you have to admire Sufjan for mixing things up.

Just listened to the new album today. Lyrically its beautiful, musically its similar to John Wayne Gacy from his Illinoise album. Its up there with Seven Swans for me, just hoping now for an Irish tour date!

Sound quality? Personally I found it fine, but I wouldn't be much of an audiophile. Some background humming noises are intentional throughout various tracks, could you be mistaking that for poor quality perhaps?

    Will give it a listen now...Excited :)

No its when I put my soundboard on full blast it's just terrible, the flac can't be too far away though

Hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am. Beautiful album....Is a tour date too much to ask for?

He's doing a few dates in the US in April so no doubt a European tour is imminent. Beautiful record. 'The Only Thing' is superb. Great interview with him here.

Oh I didn't know this was out!! Sweet. Thanks for the interview too, a great read.

It's an absolute peach of an album, might already be my favourite of his.

Bit surprised how much hate I've read for the Age of Adz in the last few weeks, I was completely under the impression that that album grew on everyone as much as it did on me. I've hardly ever listened to the final track but there's tons of great stuff on it. The guy's got an amazing catalogue imo and has somehow managed to find a balance between having really high quality albums and releasing tons of experimental or novel stuff.

2015's already been a way better year for albums than 2014 was.

Ooh can you list a few good new albums, I am horribly out of the loop these days

Impossible Soul is one of the best tracks on the album!!

Did you miss him live on his last tour? Maybe seeing it performed live twice a few times has shifted my opinion a little but I love it.

Was really more a knock at 2014 than 2015 being amazing, but Sufjan, Kendrick, Bjork, Panda Bear, Courtney Barnett and Death Grips have all released albums I'd rate above most everything from last year that I've heard.

Haven't been in the mood to give the D'Angelo album a punt still, or Swans, though.

It largely stems from me having to delete it to fit the album onto my mp3 player years ago, to be honest. I like All Delighted People a lot so I can definitely handle long Sufjan.
Haven't been to a gig in years (Pavement), but Sufjan's one of the few acts I actually want to see now.

Amazing album! Possibly a long shot, but is there any record stores in Dublin that would stock it on vinyl?

Freebird, Tower, HMV, I'd say they'll all have it on vinyl.

I'd say so, sold out 2 nights in the olympia 4/5 yrs ago and seems to be getting a lot more publicity with his new album this time round

this will sell out in minutes

Delighted to see some Irish dates. Only issue now is choosing between the Friday and Saturday gigs...

Ahhhhh!! I am going to see Sufjan on the 29th :D:D

Wasn't able to get amazing seats, but who the hell cares?!

I felt sick when I was waiting to buy the tickets- I was so scared that I wouldn't get any!

Edit: Just found out that tickets apparently went on sale last night on helix.ie - this would explain why I found it so impossible to get ground floor tickets at 9am this morning! Wish I had known about it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭The Scratcher

Just got tickets for the Friday night!!! ****e seats but sher who cares! Delighted to have gotten them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,834 ✭✭✭Useful.Idiot

I completely forgot about the tickets until I checked this thread in work. Just got a ticket there, don't really care where the seat is, just as long as I see Sufjan!

I remembered at 4pm. Too late, very disappointed.

My wife just told me that her friend bought her tickets for her birthday so gonna be going. SWEEEET.

Sometimes you can be deflated after hearing an album that's received the hype and rave reviews this has got.

This isn't one of those times... A classic.

lads, im nearly crying here. i havent got to the b side yet. was down in hmv liffey valley this evening and took a gamble on the album. jaysus christ. its really good. got 20 % off. but still, i knew he wouldnt disappoint. its awesome. if anyone could see there way to get me and the missus in to the helix i would lash them out of it with karma.

You musn't have listened to his last album, I can't imagine any artist who have produced two consecutive albums that are more different than this and Age of Adz.

Pah, I reckon 'Impossible Soul' would have fit in beautifully between 'Death With Dignity' and 'Should've Known Better'.
