League Cup Final - match thread

Sky is reporting that Vertonghen will be captain, meaning Vorm starts in goal

    Vorm

    Walker - Dier - Vertonghen - Rose

    Bentaleb - Mason

    Lamela - Eriksen - Chadli

    Kane

A lot of negativity/honesty/reality in the 'will we win it' thread. Though I don't agree. This is a cup final. Our youthful side could be nervy OR could be raring to go and hungry to win.

Chelsea missing Matic is massive, Fabregas may have to sit in. He's not used to that role. Plus, we beat them 5-3.... they're beatable. COYS!!!

Coys really looking forward to this !

It's always nervous watching our back four and if anyone makes a horrific individual error I will call them out on that.

Hopefully the ball spends more time in Chelsea half than ours..

    Bricking it lol

If we don't play lloris then losing him is much bigger than Chelsea missing matic and if he is dropped then it's lunacy

I'm feeling jealous watching the crowd outside Wembley, Never there and would love to be there today.

Maybe Poch just wants out field captain?

    Tottenham Hotspur ‏@SpursOfficial
#THFC team: Lloris (c), Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose; Bentaleb, Mason; Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend; Kane #COYS

    Lloris confirmed then

    Like that team bar Townsend.

gonna back Townsend to score first cos he is sure to take about ten shots in first half being at Wembley. I think he would also take the penalty if we got one?

There's a reason why we complain about Townsend's shooting. They're normally closer to the corner flag than the bottom corner.

The same team that beat chelsea in January except for Fazzio. Although Dembelle came on after 15 mins for Mason that day. A similar result today would be heaven.

Or Ade! About time lamela was benched hopefully he will learn from it, assuming he has a brain

    Great tackle by Dier.

Why do Chelsea always seem to have the douchebag strikers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭Dave11

I can't understand why Rose is so reluctant to attack down the left. 9/10 possessions he turns back with the ball.

Chadli better not appear for the second half. He is diabolical

    I'd prefer Dembele for Townsend

    Big second half ahead.
We love coming back from 1-0 down. We've done it to Chelsea in a league cup final.

I think Eriksen needs more of an outlet around him, Zouma can be got at.

When we break we look so slow and we never seem to get players in the box

Awful match - we are appalling and could not score if we were there all day

Dembele should have started , bad mistake

We have to score next. I think we will if we don't panic.

We've had better chances than Chelsea (bar the goal and header straight after).

Another half a chance and another goal

In the space of a week , the season is over

    We will likely finish 7th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,926 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

Nothing coming down either wing, and the pitch is huge compared to WHL, too much reliance on Kane.

Least we'd be out of Europa next year

The season would be over if we win or lose this anyway. Its just whether wegot silverware or not was the thing.

I think if we can place 7th or higher its a season to build on for Poch.

This and the europa league was our season and we balls both up...instead of playing each game on its merits we keep chopping and changing. Chelsea don't, top of league and 2-0 up here

We looked like frighten rabbits out there

Will be very hard to lift the players after this past week . 7th would be a poor season , worse than last year , would be a step backwards in my opinion

Considering the amount of academy players/young players we got, a season like this should only help develop them. Finish 7th next season and its just not good enough.

    How to confirm a defeat.

    Bring lamela on for mason.

Wouldn't we get Europa league as runners up anyway?

Wouldn't be a cup final without one player ending up with a bloody
    bandage around his head.

Nope.. that only applies to the FA cup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,893 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

If Spurs score two in the next 5 mins and Chelsea score no more goals it will go to extra time.

Pretty poor today which kind of mirrors our season... We really are miles behind Chelsea city Liverpool. And arsenal

Biggest IF in the history of it's right there.

Interesting fact, no one has beating Spurs more times today than Chelsea FC .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,926 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

Well at least they played to the whistle and didn't get tonked. Hazard & Fabergas were kept relatively quite, unfortunately we lack the creative guile going forward.

    Congrats to Chelsea.

I said to my dad it would be 2-0 Chelsea. God damnit...

    Awful awful performance

    Men against boys

    The slide continues

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,893 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Spurs done ok, Chelsea are hard to break down. Liverpool would be here if they could of
finished some of the 15 chances over the two legs.
Spurs lacked a bit of quality in the final 3rd today.

Most chelsea fans didn't really rate Chelsea either. Think we were poor but two goals were our own fault.

Yes they were our own fault . That's the sign of a poor team

Not for one minute did we look like scoring today , even for the free kick Czech had it covered

Mark eriksen and Kane out of the game and this is what happens. I think mourinho watched that 5-3 over and over to plug the holes.
