I have a 99 micra, 3 months tax left to run. No nct but will need a bit of work to pass. Not big things but probably a few hundred all in. Im looking at scrapping it but every garage seems to require NCT AND TAX. I dont really get why, if the car is to be scrapped. Ive had it for 3 years so i didnt just buy some pile of scrap in order to cash in. Any advice as the car isnt really worth pumping a lot of money into. Ive also discovered that the garages dont actually scrap them they just sell them on. I went to look at one of these 'scrapped' cars yesterday. Needless to say i ran a mile.

There is no actual scrappage, it's just a term they use to get customers in. If you were spending say €5000 on another car the dealer might knock €500 off with your car as trade in. They would probably give similar if you had no car to trade in and were paying cash.

if you go to a scrapyard you might get €100 for it. If you trade it in (which is what you have been trying to do effectively) with a garage they may allow you a little more, but you'd be better off paying cash and selling privately for €200 to €300 as the garage would just adjust their figures to make you believe you were getting a good trade in price, but you'd really be giving it to them
