Do you get peak drunk, as in, after a certain srage you get drunk and no matter how much more you drink you don't get any drunker.

No Mr Health minister I don't, I am not giving you an excuse to justify putting up the price of my booze. :pac::pac::pac:

That's just a perception you have because you're too drunk to realise. In the past (on a few occasions) I've felt invincible and then woken up with some sort of fracture and a black out.

Inbetween getting sick for the third time and soiling myself is where the pinnacle of inebriation is found.

Oh yeah I have that alright.

I have about nine pints and a few whiskies and then no matter how much more I'm told I drank after that I cannot for the life of me remember feeling any drunker at all. Of course peak drunkenness also coincides with an appearance of my superpower where I teleport myself home and straight into my bed without taking off my shoes. Only downside to peak drunkenness teleportation is that your wallet cannot make the leap with you but on your journey through the astral plain you acquire sunglasses, a feather boa and some illegible notes on the world's best idea for a movie that would totally make us f*cking loads of money man, we should make it man, we should, quit our jobs and just f*cking make it man. Also it burns some toast downstairs in your house and sets off your fire alarm.

Peak drunkness is when you drink yourself sober.

I wish there was a way to limit how drunk you get so you can just keep that perfect happy buzz going during the night and not go past it, I'd probably drink more often if you could

The idea of people being able to 'drink themselves sober' is surely false?

Sure you can plateau, because there's a physical limit to the amount of volume your body can hold or the amount of alcohol your cells can absorb. But that's a flat line.

The only thing that would make your intoxication diminish is if you stop drinking. Perhaps people who think they've drunk themselves sober have simply been too pished to recognize that they were slowing down their intake.

When I have reached the stage where I am talking to and laughing at myself I know I'm not going to get any drunker. It's my cut off point :)

I generally peak after about 12 or so pints, it's not that there's absolutely no difference after that, but I don't feel any drunker, it's usually then where my balance takes a huge hit and it becomes damn near impossible to walk in any type of straight line if I drink more, and much more than that will lead to vomiting. Lately, I've been gaining the responsibility to stop drinking at that point, or at least to seriously slow my pace down. Although, I have managed to break this plateau a handful of times. One time after drinking about 25-30 pints from 9pm till 4am I totally smashed it, pretty much lost all memory of the last 2 and a half or so hours of the night, "teleported" home, the only vague memory I remember is looking for McDonalds which was about 5 minutes away and judging from the very vague memory I have from it, taking about an hour to find it. I then remember waking up the next morning and I was still extremely drunk, had to call in "sick", which was an extremely difficult and risky thing to do, considering I was genuinely still wasted. The only way I even know how much I drank is judging by the amount of cash I spent. Luckily, my mother just happened to be finishing work around 5 and offered to give me a lift home, had I not had a lift that night, I'm genuinely not sure if I would've gotten home. I also came home with 2 tickets to Dublin Zoo in my pocket somehow.

Yep, usually after I pay into Coppers. It goes a little something like this - Walk up to bouncer, insist I'm not too ****faced and I was only in Flannery's for two, stumble down the steps, pay in, *scene missing*, wake up with a head full of whiskey and shame.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,561 ✭✭✭Duff

That never works. You just end up drinking more, faster.

It is a myth, if you keep consuming alcohol and you reach a certain blood alcohol level you can lapse into a coma and die.

are things like these even true? alcohol is alcohol after all...I think its more to do with whatever foods you ate before drinking that cause any bad reactions

Things like this are true to an extent I believe. Though, I'd say beer before wine is a bad idea, not the other way around. It's more to do with setting a drinking pace, beer would tend to be gulped rather than sipped, whereas wine would be sipped rather than gulped. Gulping wine would cause problems due to the high alcohol content, getting you very drunk, whereas sipping beer isn't going to cause a problem, it would get you less drunk. Once people have a few drinks they tend to stick to sipping or gulping rather than alternating to suit the drink. On the other hand, different types of drink have different impurities, which can lead to hangovers, the more types of impurities you give your body to contend with, the worse it is at processing them. But I think sticking to one or two types is grand, but when I was younger I'd make nearly every drink different from the last, this lead to the worst hangovers ever and I'd be out of commission for the day with a hangover. Though this is just all stuff I've heard and found to be true, I've never seen any scientific basis to prove it.
