I have moved into new rented accommodation which has gas and electricity.
We have been getting really high gas bills.
This morning I noticed that despite the gas being off all night we had hot water in the taps this morning. I have the gas on timer but had it timed off for the whole night.
Could it be that I have a setting on the boiler that is heating the water 24/7 and causing the high charge?
Would that make a big difference to the bill?

I have attached a screen shot of what I thought was the settings timed off. I would appreciate it if dome one could have a look to see if this could be what's causing my high bills.

    Thanks in advance

I have attached a screen shot

Do you know for a fact the gas was off? If so, why do you have hot water in the morning? Is it possible you set the timer wrong or the timer is faulty? It's hard to see from the screenshot if it's working. Talk to your landlord and see if he can get it sorted.

The gas boiler we have in our apartment is quite modern but when setting the timers, the heating works perfectly but the hot water randomly turns off for hours so we had to disable it.

Yes there is an immersion upstairs but it is off (have never had it on)
I checked the gas meter and it still has not moved yet I still have hot water from my taps.
    How can that be?!!

Was the bill from a meter reading or estimate? It could be just an estimate based on previous occupiers use. It will say on the bill if estimate or reading.

How are your electricity bills, it could be that the immersion is actually on, you'd hear the gas boiler and know if it was on I reckon.

Try keep an eye on it over the weekend.

Also just because the gas is off all night doesn't necessarily mean cold water in morning, newer cylinders with good insulation can keep water hot overnight.

Looks like the water temp is set quite high. The vokera mynute should be able to comfortably heat an apartment with it set just below the auto mark. As an aside does anyone have any info on the operation of this auto function. Can't remember any mention of it in the manual?

Could you please explain to me what the two adjustment wheels on the screenshot are for?
is one for water and one for radiators?
Does the one on the right adjust for temp of water or radiators or both?

    Thanks in advance

There could be a frost switch built into the boiler. That happened to us, the boiler is out in the garage, it would regularly come on when the temp fell below zero. It was on half the night in January.

Out of interest OP what is the average cost of your gas bill or what would you consider as a 'really high bill'? I've seen one person freak out over €130 per bill over the Christmas period so preception of an expensive bill is of interest! Not sure I like the blackening on the boiler from the pic!

blackening is just from my camera!
My bill was €60 for the first 4 days!
