    Hi,

Just wondering on the costs involved in hiring a full time nanny in our home, Monday to Friday, 8AM to 5PM, 2 children, 4 year old and 7 month old, including a school run for the 4 year old.

We are in Lucan, Dublin if that helps.

Are we then classed as an employer thus having to pay PRSI etc or do we have to let revenue know?

    Any info greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Of course!

1st thing: get the terms right.
Childminder: works from home, self employed, responsible for her own taxes.
Nanny: goes to your home, an employee, you are responsible to pay her taxes.

Unfortunately the reality is the most families don't follow the legal route (speaking from experience) and there are a lot of women happy enough to get cash into the hand...

It depends on the Nanny but it normally works out about 12.50-14 euro an hour after tax etc.

    www.childminding.ie is a great resource
