Hello to all you folk from Craughwel and the surrounding hinterlands.

I need a real broadband solution for my House and Home office in Carheenadiveane (Near Killeneen), the poxy 2mb/0.25mb solution being offered by Eircom and all the other wire providers is a joke, and especially as i am paying the same amount for the service as i do for my 120mb/20mb in Oranmore.

Why is Craughwell be left behind in comparison to the other satellite small towns and villages under 20km from Galway City.

    For Example:
Clarinbridge: Offerings up to 100mb for up to €70 per month.
Oranmore: Offerings up to 240mb for up to 70 per month.
Moycullen: Offerings up to 100mb for up to €70 per month.
Kilcolgan: Offerings up to 24mb for up to €50 per month.

Athenry would seem to be well served by both wire and Fibre, and with the recent announcement that Apple are locating their new state of the art €850 Million Data Center just outside the town is going to bring more internet speed, and jobs to the town.

It however seems that the small town and villages between Galway, and the nearest big towns are being left in the dark, and expected to pay the same price if not more for a substandard service.

I work in the I.T sector as a Network Engineer & IT Manager, and would be willing to participate in a group discuss and lobby for a better service for the small towns and villages (and surrounding hinterlands).

Starting with Craughwell, and the Hinterlands, can we get a group together to start this process, and lets get ourselves some decent service.

    Regards
    David

You'd think a network engineer would at least do their homework.

Fibre Broadband Cabinet is planned for this location

The entire centre of the village (does it qualify to be a town?) will be covered by those racks and cab for services up to 100. Outer edge will probably get 50Mbps ish.

You look to be 4KM out of town though. See the NBP or B4rn if you wanna do it yourself.

Hi Ed E, i have done my homework, and the plans for upgrading the exchange are along way off, the exchange in Craughwell only this week was upgraded to NGN, some 2 years after it was deployed in other towns and cities, and then removed from those exchanges and past down the line. So on that Basis are we to wait another 2 years to get what will then be 2 and 1/2 year old technology, but paying current pricing.

I did not post here to get into a row with anyone, but rather to get like minded people to team together to get a proper service.

If you or others would like to be part of the group, then lets see if we can get others interested, and start the process of lobbying the Telco's/ISP's to supply currently available services to the rural areas rather than upgrading exchanges that are already well served with speed.

    Thus the below

The fact is nobody commercial is going to touch Craughwell when eircom already have the backhaul in place and are poised to drop in VDSL racks. The town has very likely been low on the NGA priority list as most lines look to be serviced directly and eVDSL was delayed by the regulator. Due to be complete by end 2016, quite possibly a lot sooner with current pacing.

Only FTTH will benefit your kind of location. Thats what the NBP is for. No point trying anything until that tender process is complete and plans laid out. In the case that you were then ignored, then you'd go the B4rn route and get every farmer between you and village to agree to their land being dug up and run GPON back to to the exchange and buy eircom bandwidth at a wholesale level. Thats a lot of cost and a lot of work. The telcos wont touch it unsubsidised.
