I'm doing my leaving cert in June and I want to go work in the oil rigs or mining in Canada, Australia or the USA. I would like to do it for a couple of years to gather up enough money to do pilot training. Can anyone give me any information on how i would go about getting a job like this? I have no experience in this field of work at all.
    Thank you

Spend four years in college getting a qualification in engineering or something geologically related so that your skills are highly desired?

Alternatively you could get a trade in welding or electrician but you would also need a good bit of luck with this route.

Unfortunately unskilled workers aren't huge benefit to mining companies particularly when they would have to import them in.

The last line say it all. You have no experience. I would imagine that you are too young too. Go to College and get a Degree. If that's not for you, get an apprenticeship and take things from there. Good Luck

Oil prices have fallen dramatically in the past few months due to a price war between OPEC and the Americans. This means that Oil Companies have slowed production dramatically in places like Canada which means you have very little chance of finding work on oil rigs, whether you're skilled or unskilled because these companies just aren't hiring people at the moment.
