bit of trouble with a 00 yaris frount window washer, ..........its not working,

    symptoms
    • no noise when you activate the lever
    • rear working fine and plenty liquid in the bottle
    • wipers working when you pull the lever
    • nozzles not blocked removed hose and tried and no water
I guess the pump is goosed or could it be something else ?

    few questions
    • are these pumps a common fail ?
    • do these 00 Yaris have 2 pumps as the rear window is getting washed ?
    • will be going the SH route if need a pump, is it the same pump as a corolla or unique to Yaris
if anyone has done one before it appears the pump is behind the bumper, whats the handiest way to get into it ?

    thanks

There's a pump for each and a single fuse for both so it would look like if you can't hear the pump engage for the front that there's a fault with that...

Plenty of them on Ebay, looks like about €30 delivered...

    Pumps goosed, very common problem.

    Usually sell for £10 secondhand

Had an '01 Yaris with this fault last year....except it was the rear that failed.
Only one pump, just runs backwards to feed the rear.
I had to replace the pump, Ebay about €35 inc postage (or try local Breakers).
The easiest way to access the pump is to remove the wheel arch lining from the front of the Right-hand arch. You will see the washer bottle and pump. The pump is pushed into the washer bottle. I can't remember if it needed a quarter turn anti-clockwise to remove but it did come out easily.

AFAIK the pump is unique to the Yaris and a Corolla one won't fit.

interesting you say just one pump ?

if I remove the washer bottle from the engine bay will the pump come out with it or is that virtually impossible ?

If it's single pump and there's no sound when you want to wash the front then it must be the switch that's gone or wiring.

You can't remove the bottle from the engine bay. You can only get at it from the wheel arch.

@pov06, on the one I fixed the wiring etc was fine. I was getting current on both front and back (a permanent live and two negs, one for front and one for rear). Just the pump would only run in one direction. The only solution was to replace the pump.

Its literally a 10 minute job.

Pump is shared across a number of toyota models, but there are a few different electrical connection types for a yaris, Japanese and French built models are different.

Iirc I put one from a 3dr corolla in our japanese built yaris,

The pump is just clicked onto the bottle.

thanks colm, is it one pump or 2 pumps ?

and is the best way to access to pull down the wheel arch panel to access ?

    One pump.

I popped the headlight out and pulled the tank out that way as it was full of muck. it would be easier to get in via the wheelarch though.

They are not expensive new. Go to your local motor factors, give them the reg, they will call their suppliers who will advise the correct one. Most car have 1 pump with 2 outlets for front and rear wash. As pointed out above they are different for French and Jap built.
