Fallout New Vegas bug

    Hello all,

I finally got around to trying Fallout New Vegas - my first Fallout game I'm almost ashamed to admit.

It's got me hooked for sure, I use to run a hybrid Airsoft/LARP game that was mostly the same idea, except with no desert and considerably more rain and snow.

Anyway, I've ran into a game breaking glitch that seems to have affected a lot of people to varying degrees.
I'm running around the basement of the rocket lab killing Nightkin on behalf of the ghouls. I came across a "leader" and opened fire on him before I realised he had dialog options. It looks like that has caused the plot to be unmoving. A google over the weekend suggests that this mission has been a common problem for a lot of people with the Nightkin leader either being hostile straight away or offering you the mission to kill the ghoul and then going hostile after etc.
    Has anyone any suggestions?

Fallout:NV always crashed on me, could never properly play it on PC. Such a shame as well cause its a fantastic game.

Do you have a quick save/hard save of before you shot him?

worst case scenario is that if you can't dialog with him or don't have any save files close by, you can use the console to advance the quest by one objective. There should be a wiki with the console commands and wiki should contain commands for each quest and it's objective points.

Use the revive cheat on him, wont be the 1st time you will use that :)

Cant google game related stuff in work but the cheat works.

    No help to you OP,

But this is why I save on every mission, numerous times, different saves, to prevent this. Same with Fallout3, Skyrim, Oblivion, etc. Basically anything Bethesda get their hands on ;)

Edit: OP there is a command code you can enter that allows you to restart missions, cannot remember it for the life of me though :(

I managed to get it to reset and respawned the big guy, was able to complete that stage and am working on the next bit now, thanks for the help folks.

I played through the game recently myself. My advice is remember that there's a console with a no clip code... you'll eventually need it.

Also there were a few missions that bugged on me as well, mostly side missions nothing critical but you can bypass them by using console commands that trigger the game to think the mission is complete. It's very helpful and not really cheating if you've done all the requirements but a trigger point just won't activate. The Fallout wiki was quite helpful here.

If you're up for it, I heartily recommend modding FNV. There are some patches that really help the stability of the game, and also gameplay bugs, quests, etc. My previous version was as solid as I've ever had a game from that engine.

    Quick guide:
    http://www.reddit.com/r/FalloutMods/wiki/index

    Must haves:
    Mod manager: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/modmanager/?
    Script extender: http://nvse.silverlock.org/
    Boss: https://boss-developers.github.io/

    Stability:
    4GB Fallout New Vegas Updated - http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55061/?
New Vegas Anti Crash - http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/?
    Stutter remover - http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34832/?
    Also includes gameplay fixes:
    Yukichigai Unofficial Patch - http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664/?

There's loads of mods to make the game even better, but they keep it vanilla but improve performance no end.
