Game kicks of 3 30 Tuesday morning. Not sure what result benefits Ireland, probably a narrow Windies victory?

How does a draw do us? Must be a good thing as WI would be a point less

A NR would be quite welcome as long as we beat the Emirates

Rain dance on standby for the India and South africa matches

Sod it we will take rain for the Zimbabwe and pakistan matches as well

That gives us 8 points and undefeated and should be enough:rolleyes:

it would essentially mean that the Windies would then have to get a result against India or SA to have any chance of qualifying

Just been trying to map out all the scenarios. If nothing else was then rained off/no ties and Zimbabwe and UAE lost all their remaining matches I think sharing the points tonight can only improve Ireland's chances

Seems a bit messed up schedule Windies playing their 3rd match before we've played our second.

Tie or NR please. Other than that a narrow WI win

Bit of a joke that there are 30 days for the group stages and yet no reserve days. You'd think they'd put in a 3 day window somewhere for teams to finish rained off games?? Or just play them the day after if possible. Dont like relying on rain to stay off as it screwed us over in 2010 and 2012

And the biggest joke of all was the actual final a few years back in the Windies where basically the weather cost Sri Lanks against Australia, when to be up with the adjusted run-rate with bad weather approaching they had to be super-aggressive, & lost wickets which ultimately cost them the match. Total effing joke to decide a World Cup in that manner.

    Gayle finally showing some form.

Insane power from Gayle. Clearing the rope every ball now.

Hard to believe they've been poor at rotating the strike and running between the wickets. They could have posted 400 had they been in the mood.

    Unbelievable by Gayle

After he should have been given out earlier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

The most underwhelming double ever. :(

Horror result for Ireland, Zimmers were way to light on bowling which has been brutally exposed in the last 2 games, they won't make the same mistake v Ireland. :(:(

Dare I say it that we got the Windies at a good time?

Its hard to know really, they have been awful in ODI cricket for a few years and smashing an equally out of form and muck attack like this us doesn't mean they are back in form.

I'l wait to see how they do against the Saffers and India before I get to excited.

Surprising it took Gayle this long to score a double in an ODI

Zimbabwe will be doing the rain dance during the break

This massive score really puts a spanner in the works for Ireland, as did the Windies beating Pakistan. Its looking increasingly likely it'll come down to theast game between us and Pakistan

that was always a likely outcome though, the fact that Ireland has beaten WI is the real story - you always have to assume that WI are going to beat ZIM and UAE, and that's what Ireland should be aiming to do also - then the "three team league" of Ireland, Pak and WI is where the actual story is - now it looks like Ireland and WI are the best placed, with a win each and Ireland having already beaten WI, and with Pak to play, who WI have beaten, you'd have to say that on the face of it Ireland are in a pretty strong position (once they can dispatch UAE and ZIM).

Playing ZIM later in the group may be a blessing, as they could already be out of the running by the time that match comes around, and if Ireland can't beat UAE tomorrow then they don't actually deserve to be going through anyway, no matter what anyone else does.

I know NRR is a concern, and rain and other factors outside of Ireland's control - but if Ireland can maximise the factors it does control (as it already has) then the outlook is good, imo.

But, this is Irish Cricket, so prepare for disappointment.

Am at the game & rain has just stopped play. Has been drizzling for a few hours. Ominous sky. Could be a draw if ZIM don't get 20 overs. 7.20pm local time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,748 ✭✭✭✭Lovely Bloke

that would be some result, and Gayle will probably end up crying somewhere if it happens.

Doing great it must be said. They are softening up the run rate anyways.

Real gutsy effort so far from Zimbabwe. People really need to pull their necks in and stop worrying about NRR when we are gonna have their work cut out beating Zim

With Ervine out you'd have to fancy any slim chances of an upset now gone

I'm not saying it's a foregone conclusion but there is no harm thinking ahead. Their basemen are might impressive though I do agree.

Agreed, a lot of quality players in the side, the bookies before today had Zimbabwe slight favourites to beat Ireland, their really is nothing between them. We still have so much work to do to qualify.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭Brian017

A Zimbabwe win would be a bad result for us?

Edit: Nevermind, I just notice the target is 363 not 263 :o The eyes are failing in my old age!

WI next match is on the 27th v SA .... That's 3 matches in 6 days for them

While India play once every 7 days.......Not as bad as Australia who haven't played since the opening day bcos of the washout

Makes not having reserve days for matches even more of a farce

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 692 ✭✭✭res ipsa

Game over. ZIM are a good batting team but not a good bowling team. We can beat them.
