Movies you can watch with the sound down

I find that cinema absolutely gives me tons of ideas for photography and inspires me to get out there with the camera.

Seeing the success of Birdman as best picture in the Oscars, i was pleased to see it also got best cinematography, i was particularly struck by the use of wide angles in narrow spaces that added to the sense of claustrophobia of backstage.

Recently also i came across a category on Netflix entitled 'visually interesting movies', which had all the coen brothers and wes anderson movies and more and from the list i watched the fisher king, which has a number of really very striking scenes that look like they could be stills hanging on a gallery wall. Alas, as its Netflix, i've not been able to find that particularly category again to watch more of the same.

So, are others here similarly inspired in their photography by film? What movies get you going and can you recommend?

Hhmmm, not so sure they can be described as 'movies', but 'Samsara' and 'Baraka' are absolute visual treats.

Jim Jarmusch's 'Dead Man' is pretty cool if you like black and white work.

I thought that the Grand Budapest Hotel was beautifully shot - there was amazing symmetry in the cinematography. I must watch it again actually!

Watched a 10 min documentary on YouTube recently explaining the symmetry the Quadrant System in the framing in the majority of the shots in Drive.

    Must watch again....

This film has a beautiful message (if watched with the sound)
And without the sound it has some amazing shots

Wow, when i asked the question i was just thinking hollywood stuff but some amazing suggestions here. Must urgently check out Samsara and Baraka - never knew these existed.

And 'the fall' i assumed was just the tv series starring gilian anderson, but imdb brought me to this, which looks like it will be well worth a look.

Keep them coming - i have a weekend ahead that needs filling up.

Don't hate me for this but...Ben Stillers "Walter Mitty". Stewart Dryberg shoots the Icelandic landscape beautifully.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.
