Describe your perfect Sunday roast dinner

    As the title says.

    Mine?

    Meat would be chicken of course. Not too boney. It spoils it if you're spending your dinner fighting with the food on your plate.

    Fluffy roasties AND mash. Yes, I'm a little greedy.

    One yorkshire pudding. Do people even eat those in Ireland? Was never all that familiar with them till I emigrated to the UK.

    Plenty of stuffing for the chicken and gravy.

    Carrots are a must for the veg. Can have others too but must have carrots.

    Oh and ideally cooked by somebody other than me, so it is actually edible.

    Yum :D

    Roast chicken with lemon.

    Honey roasted vegetables - simple to prepare, chop up spuds, carrots, onions, peppers, parsnips...put in a roasting dish, throw in a handful of garlic cloves...drizzle with oil and honey...into the oven for 40 or 45 minutes....delicious.

    yep, something so homely about it.

    I don't get it often enough as I live alone, and apart from the fact that I'm not a good cook, it's a lot of hassle for just me.

    But when I do, it's like 'WOW'

    Rare rib of beef (blood rare!) with homemade Yorkies, roasties, buttermilk mash, honey glazed carrots and garden peas.

    With fresh horse radish, proper gravy and a nice red wine.....

    Just had mine.

    Braised striploin steak, creamed home grown purdies, broccoli, a fried egg, gravy, fresh orange juice, jelly and ice cream. :)

    Fore rib cooked medium rare.
    Roast spuds cooked in the fat rendered from the meat.
    Mashed spuds, because omg mashed spuds.
    Roast Parsnips, onions and carrots.
    Some spinish or savoy cabbage sautéed in butter and garlic because I like green stuff.
    Yorkshire pudding, also cooked in fat rendered from meat.
    Gravey made from roasting and resting juices.

    Serve it all family style in the middle of the table and every man for themselves, washed down with a of few bottles founders porter.

    For starters, I would have some soup and garlic bread. The soup can be tomato, chicken, mushroom, oxtail or asparagus, I'm not fussy

    Main, would be a load of roast potatos (more than 7), crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Roast beef, carrots, mushy peas and a yorkish pudding or two. Gravy as well. A pint of porter / stout to wash it down. (Founders Breakfast Porter, or somesuch)

    Dessert can be either cheesecake, banoffee pie, or lemon meringue, washed down with a triple espresso, or an americano.

    I like all roasts except if I go to a restaurant and it was obviously from a reheated plastic portion rather than carved from a joint there and then.

    My favourite is leg of lamb with onion sauce and the usual trimmings.

    Here in the wild west I always think that if a restaurant can't do a decent roast lamb, they should go into some other business.

    A roast leg of Irish lamb in September/October. I've always found Spring lamb to be overrated. The older lamb that has been on the land over the summer has had a chance to graze on grass and herbs that lend a wonderful taste to the meat. A good roast leg of Connaught lamb is one of the finest foods available. It's one of the foods I'd serve to show my German friends how good Irish food can be. It's a high-end product that Ireland does very well.

    I'd serve it simply with some roast carrot, parsnip and baby onions. Not forgetting the roast potatoes cooked in goose fat. Served with a rosemary and red wine jus. A good bottle of red wine to accompany the whole thing. A wonderful lunch or dinner.

    Roast chicken. Stick an onion and half a lemon into the nether regions. OMG. And stuffing. And creamy mash, and roasties, and marrowfat peas, and carrotts, and cauliflower.

    And gravy. Lots.

    Sorry, but lamb can be a greasy bugger, and roast beef is hit and miss regarding the finished product, that's because so many here want different... well done, middling, rare. Fek that. Too much trouble.

    Can't go wrong with a chook.

    And there ain't nothing like a roast chicken and stuffing sambo with mayo later on too.

    And soup from the leftovers. Such a great thing is a chicken!

    I think I prefer roast beef but I love roast chicken with stuffing too so either of those.
    Mashed potato.
    Roast potatoes.
    Homemade Yorkshire pudding.
    Thick gravy.
    Honey roasted vegetables like carrots, butternut squash etc.

    Mmm heaven!

    Roast chicken, breadcrumb stuffing (in vast quantities), roast potatoes (preferably half burnt), mash, buttered carrots, marrowfat peas, and about a pint of gravy made from the chicken juices.

    Oh Gawd, why did I ever move out of home???

    Roast stuffed chicken, mashed spud, roast spud, carrots and peas, gravy, bread sauce. With a pint of milk.
    Honeycomb ice cream, malteasers, chopped up Mars bar and chocolate sauce.
    Followed by big mug of tea, with a Dairymilk. And a good film by the fire.

    The above, although it would be my first time with the buttermilk mash, Love the blood rare!
