    Hi,
I need new brake pads & discs for my 05 Astra. Any idea how much this will cost? Would like to have an idea before I start looking for a place during the week.

Also if anyone has any suggestions on garages in North Kildare/Meath/Louth please let me know.

    Thanks.

I got Mintex pads and disc for the from tod my avensis for less than €100. Now I a discount from my supplier but you won't beat you local motor factor for price. Just don't buy a cheap brand.

Boyle Motors in Lucan are a good, reliable garage:

Try Micks Garage online for them. Not much point in investing too much in them at this point of the cars life unless you plan on keeping it for a long time.

You know a motor factors that will tell you a brand? They just give me one price and make it seem like it's a major inconvenience at that. If they don't crack their holes laughing and tell they "don't do them" "never heard of it" "what's that?"...

Is there a huge difference price wise?
My car is now ten yrs old so can't see me keeping it for an extremely long time.
Im a woman, and females often get taken advantage of in mounting which is why I want to have a fair idea in my head regarding cost etc before I allow experts to talk me into prsting with more money than I need to!

Sourcing the parts yourself and paying a garage to fit them doesn't always work out cheaper.

Then there's the risk of being supplied the wrong parts etc. it does happen. Garage may be able to negotiate a better discount on the parts also.

Go in with a rough price in your mind for sure, but sometimes it's easier to hand them the car, let them worry about it, and collect the car after.

    I learnt that anyway....:D

Not brakes, but last week I priced a timing belt kit and water pump for my car on Micks Garage and it was €200.

I tried my local motor factors as if they were around the same price I would rather support them.

Was fairly shocked when they came in at €130.

I also got 2 front shocks off Mister Auto for half the price of my local Motor Factors.
So even though some things will be got online for cheaper, it's a good idea to shop around.

Not having a go, but this means very little without brands being mentioned.

Do you drive a german car?

Not sure why it means so little to you but anyway,
    My car is an Audi.
The front shocks I bought off mister auto were KYB,the same as the motorfactors.
118 delivered from Mr auto, 110 each from motor factors.

The timing belt kits were different brands.
Micks garage was Contitech at €200.
    Motorfactors was Gates.
I don't think the Contitech even included the water pump.

Now as far as I know, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong,
Gates and Contitech use the same belts and pulleys and VAG actually use Gates belts.

Agreed, the only reason why I like to do it is because it can spread the cost out over few weeks

I got front discs n pads off Mick's garage at crimbo when they had a special on. Went to fit last week n the discs were 4 stud instead of 5 and pads wrong too. I definitely put my reg in right.
A lot easier to drop back into local motor factors will h them.

So they're going to cost me a fair bit then :-( My dad & his pal are going to fit them. He replaced a few bits for me before.

How much should I expect to pay to get my braking system bled and presumably a bit of brake fluid. Failed NCT on pedal creep but he saw no leaks

If you do go the micksgarage route, they have a sale ending today, you'll get €10 off a €70 spend and €15 off a €100 spend

I'm buying front discs and pads for my corolla, and this sale will save me about €20 on my local motor factors price

I rang one of the local motor factors and asked them had they Ferodo pads and they said they did. I presume they would of had the discs too.

@op if your dad is going to fit them, micksgarage do ferodo pads and discs for most cars I think and they are considered a good brand.
