I hear a lot about unessecary cruelty in slaughterhouses, where the halal crowd would meat cleaver and ''taunt'' their animals for slaughter before even slitting their throats and hanging them upside down.

In the traditional stunned slaughter they would taunt the animals to be slaugthered by electrocuting them excessively.

Not only that but i feel its wrong to support this by buying the meat(organic or not),and how the farmers after caring for them do not care after they sell them to the slaughterhouses.

    Its wrong!!!!!

Other factors aswell have convinced me,health issues and enviornmental issues,if we didnt consume so much meat we would have less cows farting ch4 methane gas into the atmosphere.

If there was less meat eaters there would be less greenhouse gasses.

All this benefits the planet and your health less alzheimers and heart disease, cholesterol etc.

Your thoughts, and also some advice on recipies would be greatly appreciated. :)

You came to the right place :)

First of all, it's great that you're thinking of making this step.

My first piece of advice is to keep a positive attitude during this journey. It can be easy to feel negative about the meat industry, the bad reactions you may encounter from people about your decision to go veggie or, as I found myself, feeling bad about any slip ups you may have in the early days as it can be tricky to transition in the early days.

My other advice is food releated. I found it very useful to read up on veggie nutrition, sources of protein, iron, B12 etc., without going into too much depth on the subject. These are things you won't have to really worry about, but are good to know, and I'm sure you'll get asked often "Where do you get your protein?" in the early days. Also to read up on as many recipie books, blogs etc, as you'll discover some many new dishes you can try and love, as things you man never thought of trying can become staples of your new diet.

However, without figuring all this out right away, and to ease the transition in the early stages, it could help to fall back on pizza, pasta, curry, noodles, veggie burger+chips or quorn/linda mccartney type things and ease into discovering many of the new foods that you'll learn to love as a veggie. (I would have found it very tricky to switch to always eating Quinoa, mung beans or omelettes from day one!)

Some of the handiest recipies I've come across are things like ratatouille or bruschetta, that just take 10-15 mins to cut up some tomatoes and veg, put together and you have something easy and very nice.

Also, its definitly keeping an eye on the "what I had for dinner" thread here too.

Anyway, welcome to the vegetarian world and best of luck on your transition :)

Thanks for the friendly, helpful and supportive advice. And no i don't hate meat eaters(myself being one currently),however i do think that people are complacent and don't even want to know where their meat comes from, some of it packed with injected hormones and fillers into the meat(yuk)its dangerous too.

A lot of people do not connect with or empathise with animals, switch on your television set all you will see since being a kid plopped in front of the tv,is human beings, not animals, moreover we live in a human concrete jungle so dont get to connect with animals much,so we dont emphthise with them as much as we would a human, which i think is wrong.

We should do more to get emphthising with animals out into the mainstream.More nature channels, more documentaries on the enviornment and our detrimental role in the enviornment and how we shape it.More documentaries about human overpopulation and deforestation and habitat loss of beautiful animals that contribute greatly to our eco-system.

These are the reasons ,i think ,why people are happy to continue eating meat,as there is a disconnect with the animal world and our world.
