i have been working in my fathers business for the last 8 years. it is now looking very likely that the business will be sold off and new owners will come in. i am not sure what my situation will be then but i imagine that my position is not secure. in the event that i do lose my job what are my rights as a family member from the old company? do i have the same redundancy rights?

The fact you are a family member is irrelevant, assuming you are not a Director, but a normal PAYE worker. Your rights as a worker transfer under TUPE.
If you are let go, statutory redundancy will be based on your length of service, including the 8 years you worked as an employee under the family business.
