I want to take a ditch out beside the house. It's a new build and the ditch is shown on the site map.

Can I plough away or should I get permission from whoever?

If its within your boundary I'd say you should be sound. I'd just say to anyone that you intend to replant the hedge. Should be covered then

Agree , if its a planning stipulation promise to replant it , assuming you own both sides of the hedge of corsr

It's not a planning stipulation. It is a ditch on the drive way in to the house (new build).

It borders neighbours land but he has given permission to remove same.

You should be grand so. We did the same and the light that the ditch had blocked was unbelievable

Careful now. Isn't there a new regulation (2011) regarding getting Dept to screen first before doing any reclamation above a certain threshold. AFAIK, the threshold for removing a hedge is 500m - anything above and ya have to get them out to see it first.

That's a lot of hedge !! How much would it cost to plant 500 meters of hedge -

I was just wondering if you'd be better off cutting back the ditch almost to the ground and filling in the gaps with new hedge trees - then just get it trimmed every couple of years - probably be cheaper than rooting it all out - and then having to replace it with an ugly fence- or post and rail -
( and I like the look of well kept hedges :-). )

As long as you are not claiming on the area or your neighbour isn't it will be grand to clear it. But if it is on submitted maps don't touch it. You will draw the bxtards onto you.

I am not claiming it because I have it on my site map and the site was taken out of it but my neighbour obviously would be.

Any suggestions of who could I talk with before I do anything about it..... My reps man???

If its on a building site I can't see how it involves the Dept. It would be more the council.

im removing an 90 meter hedge at the moment along a regional road. I wasn't at it 15 minutes before a council engineer was out

Anyway no planning needed for my job. He was looking for a traffic management plan and planning to remove ditch, open a gap etc.. I told him where to head off to and called his boss and questioned why id need planning, because its before 1st march for the birds

Talked to reps planner this morning and he said no need for any permission as long as I sow replacement hedge immediately.

Glad to see they have their priorities right way up as usual- if your road needed gritting, or resurfacing, they wouldn't be so quick off the mark-
They may contact DAFM and will likely be watching for burning. Also I taught the SMR was that replacement hedge has to go in first, Yeah, as ever im correct-, see page 16 of link :D:D

he said he was doing a report for the planning section. I told him I hoped it didn't take 14 months like the last report he was to do for flooding that he never bothered his arse doing. He cut stick fairly quick between that and I told him I didn't have all day to talk ****e with him like his colleagues would

    Boom gone in a flash

Auld lads around here say you can only sow hedges from Sept to march. You can't sow them in the summer as it's the growing season for the hedges and they might not take

It's a backwards way of saying the same thing, just to confuse the townies.

If ground conditions dried up a bit I'd be happy enough to sow bare root quicks during March or into April depending on the year.
I'm not at all sure about the consequences of removing a hedge though.

talk to your agri advisor/planner , the forms have changed I know a client had it set back last week because it was on the old form. almost no difference

I don't get sfp so no fines here
